Missing Tool Option

Post by xfsgpr »

Does anybody know how to get Font Color Option in Text tool. for example in old version X8 and X9 I am missing the font color such as the one shown in this picture:

This os PSP2018
2019-03-01_17-37-12.png
This is PSPX8:
2019-03-01_17-46-08.png
And it is the same in PSPX9

Just wondering what happened.

I have reset the interface by holding the shift key and double-cliking the desktop icon until it asks me some question and and I answered YES and still the Font-Color changer is not available. I wonder if anything else is also missing which I won't know until I need to use them.

It looks like this option wasn't available in X8 according to the pdf User Guide: http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/v18 ... hoppro.pdf.

I am reading on page 551 which says that one needs to use the materials panel.

Looked a little, found Font color: in PSPx9 and 2018. It was not there in PSPx7. I haven't looked further back. IN PSPx7 I looked at Unused command and All commands. I found nothing under Font. Under Color I found nothing interesting.

I think that "feature" Font Color was introduced on the Text Tool choices in PSPX9.
However it is superfluous as it is used to choose the Background and Fill color which can be done also in the Materials palette and with a target 4 times larger to click as well.
What is the difference between moving your cursor up to click the color box and over to right to do the same thing so no real improvement in operations there.
Note that in X8 and earlier because you do not have the font color box you have all the other choices for that text whereas in X9 there is a menu item of three horizontal bars to change Leading, Kerning, Tracking etc.
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Interesting. In x8 Leading, Auto kern, Kerning and Tracking are in a separate palette toolbar that appears under the main palette toolbar on my system. In x9 and 2018 they can be accessed through that three-lined menu. Cool.

Now I have a question: what do they mean by "Tracking?"

A quick Google search could have answered that question a lot faster than asking here. :-)

Tracking refers to the spacing between letters. From Wikipedia:

"In typography, letter-spacing, also referred to as tracking by typographers working with pre-WYSIWYG digital systems, refers to an optically consistent degree of increase (or sometimes decrease) of space between letters to affect visual density in a line or block of text."

This definition appears at the top of the Google search page, including a visual graphic illustrating it, with no need to follow the link to read it.

Huh! I thought that was kerning. I guess I have to brush up on typography terms. I thought 'tracking' would have to do with whether a line of text tracked on the line, above it or below it. Shows that "assume" makes a you-know-what of u and me.

After some research, I discovered that putting text above or below the baseline is called 'baseline shift' or 'leading,' referring to the shim that was necessary in manual typography.

Yes. It looks like it was introduced in X9.

Pesonally I think the materials panel also needs to be separated so that all the features are at the bottom of the screen like so:

Of course the above picture is from another software but the layout is good as the features are available quickly. Materials Panel is quite tricky for users who are using it once in a blue moon.
