Adding rail track along a path in a jpg map

Post by okyou »

Hello,

Does anyone know how to draw a rail track along a path (not straight) in a jpg map ? I tried to use a rail brush, but they won't curve. Drawing by hand don't look neat at all.
Appreciate if anyone can provide any idea or trick to to this. Thanks

I suggest you make a Custom Styled Line and then use the Pen tool to create the track.
Custom Lines aren't difficult.
It was hard to find a tutorial on it but I did find this one.

http://www.pinoy7.com/psptutorials/psp7 ... ines.shtml

also this link on Saving a Custom line.

Or if you check the drop down list in your Line Styles, you may have one that would work.

Another option that should work is to try using one of the Vector Scripts on a vector line.
The 3 old scripts, Vector Tube, Vector Stroke and Vector Paint, can be found in Gary Barton's Pixelnook set at this link.

1. Choose Pen tool, freehand , line width 1, Transparent fill , black as Foreground and stroke color. Draw your line .
2. New layer , Vector layer. (This will allow you to hide the original drawn line)
3. Choose the text tool. Times New Roman as font, stroke color clack, fill transparent. Move your text cursor near your line til it becomes a T with a curve under it (this will make the letters follow the line) Caps lock on Type the letter I (upper case i) a number of times and there is your railway line.
You can change the opacity of that layer to make the line lighter or change the stroke color to sgades of grey or any color.

Hello hartpaul,

I try to follow your method but have a few of questions.

1. For some reason, after I choose Time Roman font I can't find the transparent fill option.
2. I assume you meant writing the 'I' in the vector layer2, but when I move the cursor to the line and click to start the 'I', the font bounce back to Arial Black and not let me stay with Time Roman.
3. Even I type the letter, it follow the line, but only the current 'I' displayed. All the previous letter not staying or displayed.
Do you know what did I do wrong ? I am kind of new to vector text so appreciate any help from you.

Here are the settings for Text using either a transparent fill or a transparent stroke and what they look like:
01Text Settings.jpg
With regard to the text font changing back perhaps you have remember text ticked - Try typing your text on just a plain image withoutt setting up an extra vector layer .
02Remember Text.jpg
Also you might look at this video from Corel about making text follow a curve. It makes the mistake of adding a lot of superfluous information like some Phortoshop videos. eg mentions gradient , nodes, point to point and other confusing items for a novice.
Instead just the Pen tool, freehand drawing is all that is needed to make a curve and then fit the text to that curve. Keep the videos simple and allow novices to learn one step at a time. This shows a couple of ways to make text ( in this case the row of upper case i in Times Roman to fit your line.)
