I am having trouble with editing & rendering that I have not experienced before. I can't seem to render a project that will play properly and sometimes won't play at all any more in WMP W10.
1. I have a video capture device that captures video from a HDMI source. It is inserted between the source (cable box) and the display (Samsung TV). It saves in MP4 format to USB Device-(SSD with USB->to->SSD adapter). Right clicking the produced source video properties tab in windows 10 shows: 1280x720, -->>Data Rate:5649kbps<<--, Total Bit Rate:5839, FR59.94 F/S, -Audio- BR 189kbps, Stereo, SR 48khz. When I try to import the file into VSP10 for editing "Time Line", the program asks to "Change the project settings to match the videos' properties to enable Smart Render?"'. Selecting "Details" shows different properties from the W10 reported properties in both windows, I select YES anyway to hopefully KEEP the W10 reported properties the same and drop the source onto the editing "Time Line" screen. Right clicking the file immediately and selecting "Properties" shows they have changed anyway. The new UNEDITED properties shown are --- 24Bit 1280x720, -->>Data rate 1042Kbps<<--, FR 59.94 -Audio-BR190Kbps, Stereo, 48khz 16bit. The "DATA RATE" has been downscaled by approx. 75%---WHY???
2.The source is 6hrs in length 15.2G in size. I want to chop off the last 4 hrs and keep the first 2 hrs, so I SNIP it at 2hrs 2minutes. Select share and check "Same as first video clip" But the video is already reporting different than the W10 properties says it is on the "Time Line" properties. The estimated output size is 1.09gb----I want to cut away 2/3 of 15.2Gb, and it reports estimated output to be 1/15 the original and it grinds away for hours(RECODING?). The final output will not play on Windows Media Player(the original plays fine), and will not play on any display I own. -- I selected "Keep the same properties" while editing and "Keep the same properties" while rendering and the data was changed anyway --2 times--. The final NEW properties are --- 1280x720, -->>Data Rate:1216kbps<<--, -->>Total Bit Rate:1405<<--, -->>FR60.03 F/S<<--, -Audio- BR 189kbps, Stereo, SR 48khz.-1.19Gb.
Questions:
How can I force VSP10 to "NOT RECODE" and simply shorten the video by 66%????
This used to work for me--previously I was able to mix 4 camera sources and a computer "Screen Capture" clock image, as well as "Time Lapse" this combination successfully in the past---Something is different now...Please,, any advice will be hopefully helpful.
If clips are needed, please, how can I share them??
Thanks,
John

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Hi John
You may be best to use Media Info to view the files properties, more accurate than Video Studio for some file types.
The data rate discrepancy may be reading the Max compared to the Average, just a thought.
https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo
Sharing is not an option as 15 Gb is a little large, you would have to upload to a sharing site which have a file size limit.
Video Studio, after cutting, select the clip – File – Save Trimmed Video should use the video properties
A little strange that after rendering the video no longer plays?
Is it the first time you have used footage from this device?

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Hi
Sorry a lot going on here and I do not fully understand all those properties
Using the original unedited video does that play ok using WMP and X10?
X10 does seem to be having some problem reading the properties.
I can only suggest you try converting the video to a more editable file using video converter software.
Video Properties
The original properties show the Frame Rate as being Constant (59.94fps), that is ok yet the File 1 properties indicate a variable rate as does File 4. Are you saying those were created by X10, if so its even more confusing as I did not think VS could encode to variable?
Corel did at one time recommend installing K-Lite codec pack where users had problems importing HD video, I was unable to find that on the Corel knowledge base, don’t know if they have removed that entry?
Is it possible that the original video is Copywrite protected as Video Studio will struggle editing those video types. Just a thought…

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Thanks again for your continued advice.
I have made some clarifying edits to the original question based upon your comments, NOTHING SUBSTANTIAL, just coloring for emphasis and discovered in file 2 & 3 that the audio duration is different than the video duration by a very large error, 2hr video has 7 min audio???

Potential Issue identified byLATA
Frame Rate & Mode
Size & Duration
Various Bit Rates

Thanks again for your efforts.

1. Yes the 4 files were created by VSP X10. VSP X10 is my only editing program.File 1 properties indicate a variable rate as does File 4. Are you saying those were created by X10, if so its even more confusing as I did not think VS could encode to variable?
2. The original source is conventional TV of automobile content so I believe the possibility of copy protection to be very low, plus, it plays fine on WMP and VLC as well as preview mode during editing, plus plus, the source plays fine on a different Samsung TV UN43J5000AFXZA AUG2015. --BUT-- it won't play with sound on the other, MAIN, Samsung TV-go figure--the previously referenced UN55HU6840FXZA APR 2015Is it possible that the original video is Copywrite protected as Video Studio will struggle editing those video types.
3. Are you saying there is a program called "VIDEO PROPERTIES" that can convert video formats? Can you provide a link?? is it free or almost free??? What is "MORE EDITABLE"????I can only suggest you try converting the video to a more editable file using video converter software.
Video Properties
4. Can you provide a reputable source for K-Lite CoDec pack and wouldn't VSP complain about missing or incompatible CoDecs?Corel did at one time recommend installing K-Lite codec pack where users had problems importing HD video

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Video Properties – was intended to be a sub-title, I have corrected the post by adding a carriage return and underlined the words
If you use a video converter to render to another file, even if that is Mpeg4 then with a bit of luck X10 may be able to edit the new file.
Your Samsung TV may be able to play the file, seems very strange that one TV can play the file and the other looses audio.
I certainly do not understand why the properties show a different frame rate for audio as to video
In fact don’t know why it shows a frame rate for audio, and the durations just do not make sense
The original shows the video codec as isom(qt) I assume that refers to QuickTime, again converting that to another codec may help.
If it is a QuickTime codec you could try renaming the file to use MOV as its file extension, maybe X10 would prefer that, but clutching at straws to find a solution.
If you do not have the QuickTime codec installed then you should also try that, but only install the Codec and not the player.

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Again, Thanks Thanks Thanks for your continued help...
Thank You for your suggestion to simply change the filename.EXT from .MP4 -> to -> .MOV.
The VSP X10 now has less options and settings presented.
1. It no longer asks, at the drop of a file on the timeline, whether to keep the current Clip settings or Project settings.
2. During render it no longer has CHECK "Same as first clip" vs "Same as project"--Only PROJECT was selectable.
I rendered a 5 minute clip of the 6hr original file and it plays on WMP with FF & REW functional, and, it plays with sound on the troublesome 55-Samsung as well.
This seems to be a WIN!
Now:
1. I need to figure out ->WHAT IS<- and ->WHY IS<- this actually working this way.
2. Figure out which of the adjustable settings will "break" at what point... In the "PROFILE" box there are many premade selections that can be edited-What should I try to down scale?
3. I need to find a "FAST" -> Low Cost-->Free... way to simply chop off leading or trailing data to get to the prime parts for final editing & merging...
I tried to create a 5 min clip from the 3:00 hr:min to 3:05 hr:min points from the original 6GB source and it took a long time just to get started let alone get finished--almost 3 hours for 5 min final size clip--...Starting at 0:00 going to 03:45 min:sec, took 8 minutes.
Here is a properties report of the 0-3:45min working file, which setting(s) is(are) allowing this to work?

What do you think is important to KEEP THE SAME to keep this a working model yet reduce the total size?
Thanks for your insight,
John
How can I find which CoDecs are currently installed/active on my computer and what is different about similarly named CoDecs, and what is the same about differently named CoDecs? If you do not have the QuickTime codec installed then you should also try that, but only install the Codec and not the player.

Re: Trouble with "Sharing" section
Quicktime is no longer supported by Apple, the Player was a security risk to our computers.
Recommendations to uninstall Quicktime, however some video did benefit from installing the QuickTime codec, there was a Youtube video describing the problem and details to install the codec only.
This post refers
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63588&p#p356253
I only have the codec installed -- I see Quicktime on my Start Program list
I think the main problem is the isom codec used by your capture device -- Video Studio does not like that codec.
Do you have any options to choose different capture settings. Mpeg4 h264 is the most common format, I would have thought that would be an option.
