PSP Extra Downloads (Could not find relevant thread to post)

Post by AlicatArt »

A fellow PSPer has purchased and downloaded the Snowflake addon, it is an auto installer and he has installed it but cannot find it in PSP. Part of the problem I found with the Auto INstaller is there are not instructions with it, and it does not tell you where it has been downloaded. (I did suggest he Contact Corel for help) He is unable to add it to the File Locations as he does not know where it has been installed and cannot see it. He showed me Print screens of the install file, but without looking at all the files it did not give me any clues as to where it may have installed.

I will try and get him to contact Corel, but hoped you might be able to shed some light on this as it's not the first time I have come across this problem)
I had a similar problem with a Script Auto installer, I could not add the scripts in the File Locations as I did not know where it had installed. I am familiar with the Program Files, but as I have different versions installed and other scripts installed it was not easy to find as I did not know the filenames of the scripts. I did seek help from corel and a Tech Support person eventually found it in the languages Files for one of my versions.

a falling snow script

Ok. Looked at that Snowflake brush set and installed it.
Could not find it in PSP 2019.
But looked in some other versions of PSP and found that it installed in each version X6 - 2018
Its location was

C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6\Corel_01
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X7\Corel_01
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X8\Corel_01
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\Corel_01
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018\Corel_01

I discovered in the X9 version that I had a warning about duplicate file names.
Apparently the Ultimate versions had an extra set of brushes in the Creative Collection or Creative Content - I really wish they had changed those names as they are so similar and cause confusion.
In any case PSP X9 had a folder called Ultimate X9 which contained files:

BrushTip_Snowflake7.PspScript
Snowflake7.PspBrush
with versions 1-7

Upon opening the PspScript file in Wordpad I found there was no author and one of the lines referenced the corresponding brush.
The installed Snowflakes used the same naming system which caused the warning. So even though they were different snowflake brushes they had the same name. When the warning comes up you also get the advice to change the names - rename. This however is not enough as you have to change the reference inside the script as well.

So for each file I changed the name to add U9 (for Ultimate X9)

BrushTip_SnowflakeU97.PspScript
SnowflakeU97.PspBrush

But this failed as I had to change the reference inside the script using wordpad and Save:

'Shape': App.Constants.BrushShape.Custom,
'CustomBrush': u'snowflakeU97',
'Size': 999,
I also could not do this inside the Program Data folder so I copied / moved the files outside into a temp Desktop file, made the changes and then moved them back inside.
I did this with PSP 2019 which had a folder Ultimate X11 folder with snowflakes in there.
Upon reinstall guess what. The new Snowflakes failed to install - I am guessing that PSP 2019 has not been included in the installation process and gets missed out as they appeared in all the versions shown above.
The new Snowflake files have an author in the PspScript file - Emily Jane Fulford.

Corel needs to watch its naming system as if they continue to keep releasing new tubes, brushes, scripts they will have many conflicts.
I would suggest that they include in the name the year last two digits and another two digits for the month eg a new snowflakes coming out now would have Snowflakes190201- 190207 for 7 snowflake brushes. and so long as they do not put out two items in the same month with the same name they should be right.
Hopefully AlicatArt has another version of PSP installed from X6 to 2018 . They will find the files in thhe locations mentioned and should be able to copy those to the 2019 folders.
Have done that and now have 14 different snowflake brushes..

Thank you for your very informative post. I was asking this for someone else I 'know for sure which version he has, but I think it may be 2019.

I will send him this information, though a bit condensed as I don't think he will understand all of this and see if we can get it installed.

I agree on the naming of the files for different versions as I have different versions installed including old and new versions 32bit and 64bit.
I had a similar problem a while back and with a script I did not know where it was installed it and I wanted to add it to file locations, but did not even know the names of the files and it had installed in a folder where I already had other scripts in the root of the script folder in the languages area. It took the Tech Support a while to find it too.

Also, had a similar problem with Fast Click not working which i had purchased from their Whats New Gallery, Tech Support was not able to solve that one, but I found it after buying an upgrade for the Video Studio program which included an updated version of FastFlick, a 64bit version which worked straight away. The one I had a problem with was a 32bit version which I had purchased a few days before the upgrade of the Video Studio. I replied to Tech Support with the solution and suggested they add a note/instructions about the fact that it only works on 32bit and not 64 bit processors. (but that has not been done!)

I agree these filenames should be updated each year
Thanks again I will let you know if this works

I have spoken to him he has 2019 and no other versions. He Searched the C Drive and here were no files with Snowflake in the filename so it had not installed on the C Drive. He is speaking with Tech Support to get another Download incase the Zip file may have been corrupted or he may have had the same issues you had not installing in 2019.

In addition I tried the installation a number of times and even after clearing out any Snowflake files in 2019 (they were in the Ultimate version called UltimateX11). So even after say moving that folder out to the desktop an attempting a reinstall nothing (no Snowflake brushes) appeared in the
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2019\Corel_01 folder.

The fact that they appeared in earlier versions X6 up to 2018 suggests strongly that the installation package for these Snowflakes was designed before 2019 came out in August 2018 and so no matter what you do it will not install in 2019 unless Corel change the installation package.
The only way that they can get the files is if Corel or someone provides them with a zip file of the Brushes and Brush Scripts that they can manually place in the correct folder.

I have brushes labeled "snowflake," but I have PSP x6 through 2018, and it looks as if I have consolidated my brushtips. The first snowflake tips are in C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X6\Corel_01\Ultimate X6. They are not in the PSPx7 or PSPx8 folders, but they are in x9 and x10 (PSP 2018). I expect I put them in PSPx9, but I cannot recall. Bottom line is that you will have to install them manually.

That is basically the way I have installed all the brushtips, frames, etc. from all my old PSP versions into the most recent version: I copied, then pasted. When I ran into Corel's segregated folders I did some cutting and pasting to avoid dupes. Have fun!
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.
