Why Lack of Paintship Pro Books???

Post by Artful Toad »

I'm new to PSP. I have PSP 2019 Ultimate. I dumped all things Adobe awhile ago (don't want subscriptions). I chose PSP because I was aware that Corel has been around a long time, and I surmised (without researching!) Corel would have a large footprint in the training area in order to further its product. However, I'm shocked at the lack of training materials available on the Corel site itself, and also, an astounding lack of third party books. For Lightroom and Photoshop there are TONS of books by true masters of the software. I've searched Amazon, and there's almost nothing available for PSP other than a few old books. Why is that? For Adobe, there's also a vast amount of free training materials, videos, etc. There's only a few such items available for PSP. Why is that? I'm sure there are many expert PSP experts who could write great technical books.

Ahh but we have this great forum where even the simplest of queries get answered. :D

But there were some books long ago for earlier versions. I purchased one for PSP X4. I think I saw one somewhere for PSP X6. The point is that because PSP has not changed much apart from new interfaces and a few new bells and whistles, that what is taught in the old books can also apply to newer versions. As well it would appear that books are not as popular as they once were.

Meanwhile there are plenty of video tutorials on youtube and a few on the Corel site for newer features.

On Youtube just doing a search for text in paintshop pro gives you this
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_ ... ntshop+pro

And just scrolling a few screens down showed over 24 videos and over 220 minutes of tutorials with one being only a little over a minute and a half and the longest a webinar of over 59 minutes.
One tutorial covered Jasc Paintsshop pro 7 with windows 10.
Then there is a Paintshop Pro Basics set of totorials set up long ago by our own Levifiction.
https://www.youtube.com/user/LeviFiction
Cassel also has her Scrapbook Campus site and runs monthly webinars on some aspects of PSP with a bent towards scrapbooking.
http://scrapbookcampus.com/

So how much tutorial do you want - and this ws just on text.
Sigh!! So much to learna and so little time.

At or near the top of this forum there is a link to a free Paintshop Pro tutorial program 'Beginners Workshop' where hard working volunteer mentors will take you through about 90 tutorials from beginner to proficent PSP worker.

I guess a lot of it is simple economics. Adobe, love or hate them, has a large market share and thus attracts the authors to that market. Many 'beginners' think they 'have to' have an Adobe product to do any sort of editing. This 'must have' mentally also feeds into the supply of basic and beginner publications.

But not all is lost. Google is your friend. Sites such as http://video-books.net/paintshoppro/tut ... ionary.htm can help convert many PhotoShop Tutorials. Yes it's out of date but it's a start.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Corel to do anything. They don't seem to understand the need for support.

It's not just PSP. Most editors, other than Adobe, are in a similar situation. Thankfully forums such as this are a great place to start.

IIRC one of my PSP's came with links to tutorials by Linda Something. But really, try the Help site. Filled with good stuff, it is.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

The pdf file for 2019 is at this link:

http://help.corel.com/paintshop-pro/how ... o-2019.pdf

It is 573 pages long so your best bet is to print the contents page and then browse the document for the relevant topics you are interested in.

Good luck.
