VS9 16:9 Widescreen Question re Canon MV630i

Post by pete1336 »

Hi all,
I'm presently using VS9 with my canon mv 630i camcorder and have a couple of questions:
1. Can anyone tell me if my canon mv630i can capture in 16:9 widescreen format?
2. If it can't, can vs9 output what it can capture (4.3?) in 16:9 format?

TIA,
Pete

Well, I've managed to find out that my camcorder can and does capture in 16:9 format. I did a small test project with VS9 and it actually burnt it to widescreen format, I could see the black bars above and below the picture on my tv whereas with 4:3 format they are not there.
I guess I've answerd my own question. The thing I'm unsure about is this 'What's the benefit of filming in 16:9 format?' Does that format contain more info/data in the picture? as I don't see any.
Thanks,
Pete

The number of pixels is the same as for 4:3 video. However, with 16:9 you see a wider scene that more closely matches our natural vision with peripheral vision.

Future TVs will all be 16:9 (at least for awhile), and since such material appears letterboxes on older 4:3 sets, there is no point in not taking advantage of 16:9.
