More first time issues

Post by Prelude »

So on top of my original audio track issues that I couldn't figure out, here's some more problems I've encountered:

I cut lots of clips and put them into a sequence, synced alright to the music. Then I add transition effects and it bumps the clips out of position. Shouldn't a transition effect leave the clips where they are? I'm stuck with either choosing no transitions, or having my clips un-synced with the music.

Also, my sequence preview is glitchy. Playback turns very pixelated here and there. I figured it was just a preview thing, but I tried rendering the video and it rendered the glitches into it. My PC isn't a slouch, and the source video is clear.

The introduction of gap editing has seriously affected the clips on the timelines, cutting clips, adding transitions is causing a lot of problems, for you will affect sync.

Although Corel are aware of some issues I would urge you to complain to Corel Support

Sorry but there is no option at the moment to disable the gap effect

Prelude are you new to VS?
In VS transitions are not center based but start based so clips will always move to the left..

Yes I just got it yesterday. So I have to add transitions after every clip instead of after they've all been sequenced?

You can calculate also the time issues. If your transition is 2 sec long you can prolong the pervious clip by half of that (1 sec) and then your second clip will remain in sync.

When I have 50 clips, adding one transition will bump all of them. And that doesn't solve sync issues with music, because the transitions don't overlap the clip like an overlay, they bump it out of place.

Also, the video playback is glitchy for a couple seconds after every clip (or every time I hit play)

That is correct, and it was always in this way in VS. There ar several tricks how to avoid this.

1. You have to work out in advance how do you want to make your music videos. There are two methods, the one what you are using now or the second one when you immediately beat after beat places your clips with transitions to the time line. Only when everything is in sync you can add the following clip.
2. In your method when you want to add the transitions or other time related things you can add markers at the cuts to the time line (small green triangles). Usually it is enough one marker behind the planned transition. This will indicate the sync point for all your cuts behind the modification. This means if you add the transition the following clipend will move against marker and all other clips behind it (probably not in 2019). In the next step you can adjust the length of the first clip after transition to the marker, what will bring back everything in sync again. After that you can go to the next transition. It is quite easy.

If you plan to make more music videos than there are better programs than VS. Some of them indicate automatically the beat points so it is much easier to position the clips.

Thanks for the help! That was helpful info. Other than Avid or premier CC what would you recommend? (I don't want to purchase monthly subscriptions)

I cannot tell you right now. Several years ago I worked on Magix which had the beat indicator ( I think it was the Magix Music maker/ Movie score edition). That NLE supported just mpeg SD videos - that is why I returned to VS. Maybe one of the newest Magix editor will support also the new HD formats.
Basically I do not have any problems with VS from this point of view. After 2-3 video clips you will get the skills how to use it.
