Hi lgiltz
Corel stopped providing the patches by downloading with the release of 2018
All patches are now done through the program.
Latest version for 2018 is 21.4.0.165
If you are having issues installing then try uninstalling 2018 and 2019 by running the Cleanup tools here.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847
even though you may have uninstalled the programs please run the cleanup tool again.
Then go to C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2019 to make sure this folder has been removed
I would then install 2018 which should also download the latest patch. SP4
Sorry reading the end or your post and I now realise you have done just that.
There are some issues running 2019, personally I would wait until the first patch is provided before attempting to install the program.
There should be no reason to uninstall 2018 before installing 2019

Oh patches installed through the program are now saved you your pc

It's always safe to keep prior versions installed unless you are so hampered for memory that you have to make do with only one version. An immediate fallback option is always handy.

That said, the installation of 2019 has been shown to have side effects on 2018. The filters are one area - if you use ultimate, then the filter list for 2018 will show 2 mercallis - 2 and 4 (the latter being a plug-in for 2019), which is an unusual positive. Un-installing 2019 will also uninstall the Boris filter from 2018; you can get it back by using the setup.exe file for Boris in the bonus folder for 2018, which is a pain but easy enough to do. The 'save as' function which should allow you to save a vsp in a format for a prior version of vs is still there in both 2018 and 2019, but doesn't work: a 'saved as' file opened in its nominated version will crash it immediately. We can go on. The point however is that these sort of things should never have happened: that they occurred is sloppy programming and poor QA. That they haven't been fixed - says a lot about the current attitude in the corel camp. If you have x10 or prior, DON'T uninstall - you may need them.

The problem is rather general ( see my experiences viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64932).
In the last time you cannot find a single software which has no bugs or critical errors or forgotten functions. Some of the vendors do not have a working support team at all. Corel at least has a support, however the efficiency is not the best. I think the support engineers also see the problems of the recent version and also know that there is no solution, the way on what they are going has a dead end.
I was very happy with X7 it was extremely stabile and offered all important functions and options what I needed.
About a month ago I upgraded to VS2018, because of a single efx what was not available in the VS X7, meanwhile I recognized what everything is gone lost in VS 2018 in comparison to X7. I think I will continue to use the X7 and forget Corel definitively in the future. I will keep the VS2018 only for some very special efx and will use them in X7 ( I just worked out how). VS2019 is not even an option for the update.
I do not know which insatiable manager drives the development team to bring every year a complete new version, but I think the complexity of VS is already above the certain limit where you can make a new version within a year. That means the new product is full of bugs, critical errors and stability issues, misunderstanding the market needs and will create just customer churns.
Who wants to discuss several months with the support team for fixes and finally accept that there is no fix at all ie the product does not meet the published specs. Just the time is gone. Corel should not forget, that the user wants to use the product and his function is not the quality tester and bug collector.
I think generally the SW industry should go back to the rooth, ie. the sold product should be ready, like a car, TV set, camera or a microwave oven etc, and the customer cannot be missused for testing and fixing purposes. Today I just measured, my computer was busy for over 2 hours with different upgrades, I had to restart the unit 3 times! Actually who is stealing my time?
The customer feedback is complety different issue, where the customer (like here) create a wishlist for the new version.

Well here we are almost a month later with no patches and no fixes. This kind of thing cannot be good for customer loyalty - those who bought 2019 as first-time users will not be happy campers.

I just accepted an online offer for VSP2019 Ultimate FULL Version $39.99, + 2Yr Download
I am still using VSPX10 and have never installed my VSP2018 Ultimate upgrade ($49.99 at the time),
..
One day this will work, maybe within the 2 year window??
Always trying to learn something new!

I very much doubt this forum will affect sales much. Your average user just gets on and buys software and upgrades without consulting forums like this. The damage is more long-term as new adopters face the inevitable headaches and move to other vendors in the next cycle. Early adopters here tend to be of the hobbyist flavour - willing to run old and new and watch what happens.

Thank God for that - I thought it was just me having the drag/drop problems in Timeline.

I have reported it but have received little help from Corel Support. Now I know why - it is a known software issue.

One thing I did find while playing around trying to fix it, is that if you go into Storyboard view, do your drag and drop, go back to Timeline view and then do the "Remove the Gaps", it appears to work.

I have been too p'd off to actually do any editing so don't know how effective the above is. I also had the, now lost, hope that Corel Support would actually fix it.

I'm amazed by this...

- There's no way to drag a clip to the timeline without it overlapping and auto-transitioning? It won't just insert between tracks like you'd expect? Is there no option to toggle this functionality?
- They removed Split Clip from the context menu? WHAT?

I think I have to move on to a new/different editor. This is so irritating. And I really hesitated to take them up on the upgrade offer (I'm on relatively fixed income right now). I wish I'd stuck with my instincts.

Question: has anyone gotten a refund and/or is it possible to do so? (if so what's the process)?

They need to fire the project manager for incompetance. This is early beta stage. This will cost them dearly.

Not based on some of the reviews that are very positive. For example, The DIY Video Editor review of VS2019 (https://diyvideoeditor.com/corel-videos ... ro-review/) offers effusive praise, stating that:

"VideoStudio Pro 2019 and Ultimate 2019 are both great examples of what can happen when a software company like Corel listens and makes an effort to not just correct errors, but to anticipate and satisfy needs.
The result of this has been steady forward improvement in the functionality, usability and stability of each year’s final release candidates.
I have no reservations in recommending Corel VideoStudio Pro 2019 or Ultimate 2019 to anyone looking for fully featured editing software at this level."

Unless you are part of the Corel senior management, you have no idea how or why the release decision was made and who if anyone advised against it.

I have seen these miss leading reviews where mendacity reigns. However, after purchase and returns the tide will change unless there is a rapid patch. Someone is responsible for this egregious error in judgdment. I hope a patch is comlng soon.

I fully agree with you. Such reviews are mostly written by the own marketing with the only goal to sell more from the rubbish product. Today the magazines ( e-magazines as well) are very far from independence and neutrality so to read their reviews is just waste of time. Very often even the basic know how is missing to review the new product.
The senior management has just a simple goal: to get more money and in time for the shareholders. Unfortunately I know cases when at this level of management the people did not even know what their corporation is producing.

FYI, I just updated VS 2019 to 22.2.0.396. It seems they have removed the gap edit feature? It's now acting like my old VS x7 version where I can drag a clip on the timeline to a new position and it shifts the other videos rather than overlaying the current videos and leaving a gap. It also is letting me drag a new clip between clips on the timeline, moving the clips after the inserted clips to the right rather than overlaying them. VS 2019 was almost unusable before. Now it seems to be working as I had hoped.
