FujiFilm 8X DVD-R -- Bad News

Post by rdenny »

I bought a 25-pack of FujiFilm DVD-R 8X. Mistake. I've never had burning problems before, already 2 of these failed with "fixation errors". I was able to burn one OK, but it would not play in my stand-alone DVD player. Never had THAT problem before either. It does play OK in my computer with PowerDVD though.

Maybe the 8X is the problem, though my Sony DRX-800UL burner is supposed to be able to burn 16X DVD. I have the latest firmware in the burner too.

Just an FYI...

This problem is normally associated with compatability issues between the VD writer and the media and not the software being employed to accomplish the burn.

Hi, I bought the same discs, and I thought "what a bargain!".I have burned 2 mpeg2 movies without a problem using VS9 and Fujifilm 8x dvd-r.Of course ,I'm only burning them at 4x because my dvd burner isn't rated higher so I guess you just got a bad lot.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't clear about that. It has nothing to do with the software.

Maybe so. The DVD that did burn OK played fine on several computers (multiple, different DVD drives) with various DVD player software. My burner has been very reliable, so maybe you're right -- bad lot. I have another spool, so I'll but it open and try one of them.

Try burning them at a lower speed. I noticed when I first tried 8x my system burned at 12X. Usually you have to wait until the software sees the blankdvd before you can go into options and change the speed.

I also had burning problems using 25-pack of FujiFilm DVD-R 8X. Nothing but hardship; some worked better at 4 X and some didn't. My advice is to throw em away.

The Fuji's I've used that say "Made In Japan" are good.
The Fuji's that say other than Japan I've experienced some problems with.

When you look at the burning side of the dvd are there any imperfections.
Especially on the outer edges of the dvd.

Also, when burning these dvd's use NERO to create the dvd and during
the burning process check "ON" Verify Disk. You will probably find
the error during the verify disk reading.
