Video Studio 2019 Ultimate Ripple editing not working at all

Ripple editing is not working. When I delete an image from the video layer with ripple editing activated it just leaves a blank space. In play back it shows a black screen for the duration of the deleted clip. Hope the fix it very soon. Every time you buy a new version there are lots of problems. See images attached as proof of my statement.

With VS 2019, Corel has introduced gaps in the main timeline for the first time, though such gaps are found in a lot of other editing programs. Unfortunately, the basic code for Video Studio is very old, going back to Ulead days, and that was of course predicated on no gaps in the main timeline.

Even more unfortunately, these gaps have introduced a number of problems, and the one you have identified is just one of them. We understand that Corel may be working on fixes, but when they will appear is anyone's guess. Why they released a new version of VS with -- for VS at least -- such a radical new approach to the main timeline, without first fixing some of the main defects introduced by that approach, is another matter entirely...

As a stop-gap measure (pun intended! ), you can at least right click in the gap area of the timeline, and in the dropdown menu which appears you should see at the bottom "Close gap" and "Close all gaps". But it would be nice if, for example, the user was given the choice of whether a gap is left or not in the main timeline in a more obvious way. (Personally, I'd like to see this choice added to Preferences.)

Hi Ken thanks for your response. I tried your method by removing the gap while ripple editing is still activated but then it closed the gap without applying the ripple effect. That means ripple editing is useless the idea of that is to shift everything on all layer in place. It was always meant for deleting from your main layer, the ripple effect never worked when deleting images on other layers! This is really ridiculous.

Yes, breaking ripple editing is one of the ripple effects of introducing gaps in the main timeline without checking and updating or replacing the very old code on which VS is based... And I agree that a good description of this is "ridiculous"...

Thanks Ken, we'll hope for a quick fix, though I now have to reinstall VS 2018 (I've uninstalled it as there were also too many issues) to complete my project which is nearing the end

Probably a good idea. Just be aware, though, that if you later decide to uninstall VS 2019, that it also uninstalls some of the plug-ins that come with VS 2018. These are easy enough to reinstall, but it's just another headache with 2019 that Corel are also apparently working on...

I found the same problem with ripple editing as alluded to above. They should have stayed with the old format until such time as the new one was ready. This will delay the release, I think, for some time, if they are serious about fixing it. I wish them well. It's a new ball game now.

I lodged a complaint at Corel. If this is not working I will follow the route of claiming my 30 money back guarantee.

Corel has a serious problem. They released alpha version of the software that is so buggy, if not immediately addressed, could cost them dearly. I wish them well and hope for a normal release in the near future. These errors are too gross to be call even a beta version. Good thing it has not been released to general public.

I would be a nice feature, if I can adjust the behavior of the first track in the setup menu.
I prefer the "old" 1st-Track functionality.

Indeed Dirk, not just you but 97.3% of all VS users. Because it's just make sense, video is a stream and it's good to have a solid base with no gaps.

Just a follow up on this issue. I've contacted Corel Help Desk so after 3 days they responded. I was asked to delete Windows temp files and secondly to reset your Video Studio 2019 to its default settings. I did that but it is still behaving the same.

I also want to mention that it also deletes everything on layers to the right of the deleted clip. When you press the undo button it shows all the selected clips that were deleted. It does this with any project. I reinstalled VS 2018 and have no problems at all with the same project.

I gave the results to the person that contacted me and will keep you posted if the problem is solved.
