Gif's stopped working in VS18/

I am still working on a project when I was last working on it a few weeks ago I would import a .gif into the overlay track. When I played the clip or project it would move, now it will not work?
I have tried another one and deleting them, for some reason the will not work.

As part of this project I am also trying to get the gif to work through the entire clip, basically having a person disappear and as that happens the dove comes in and flies towards the sky.
then disappear. I need it to follow a line up, I can get it to follow the circle or other effects but not a straight line (as of yet) I guess one problem at a time. Thought I throw it in there
in case someone had thoughts on the best way.

That would of been a smart thing to do lol. I guess a few more years and I should learn. As you should be able to see it works inline. I am wondering if it is possible I had to many windows open, but they system is big enough to handle it. I will go after it again later. thanks

If I recall correctly animated gif was supported with quicktime.
I have no idea what is going on these days with that.

In fact when trying to open that Dove gif, you get a message in VS 2019 saying that QT is required to play .mov files, and that you need to install it. I suppose that tends to indicate that it sees animated gifs as .mov files. I get the same thing with VS 2018.

The curious thing, though, is that I have QT installed on my computer (just the codec), and it shows clearly in Share in both versions... I also have no trouble opening and editing .mov clips in VS.

I recently used several gif files ( animated flags) in VS2018 and all were working.

EDIT: I found a couple of animated GIFs that I collected some years ago. They both insert and play properly in VS without any msg about QT.

I did the same, just downloaded some free animated flags insert them into VS2018 and used them. No messages, no errors.
Maybe during weekend I will create some short video.

No error messages. It will show up in the proper place, it just will not play? Though as I said it did a few weeks ago. I have made no major changes and everything else seems to work ok.
I will try a few other .gif files.

I was just thinking, though the dove .gif plays in Internet explorer what if somewhere in file association for the .gif format was not associated with quick time? I opened the file and it plays in quick time. I have to find it in Windows 10 I do not believe there is preference in VS18 that associates .gif files with QT?

Any thoughts on this?

In Win 10 Settings > Apps > Choose By File Type, you can set default programs for particular file extensions. But it only lists GIF with no separate entry for animated GIFs. The default program is unsurprisingly (Windows) Photos. But the possible alternatives are all graphics/photographic type programs with no reference to either Video Studio or QT. It gives the possibility of looking in Windows' Store, but of course QT is not there in any case -- again unsurprisingly, given that it is an Apple program.

The default Windows Photos does open animated GIFs, but, does it open them because the QT codec is installed

I don't have quicktime installed at all, I can play mov's with WMP11 and load them to VS.

The only downside I found, is no mov with alpha and probably animated gifs...
For a collection of animated gif simply go to
C:\Program Files\Corel\VideoStudio 3D Title Editor\Plugins and look inside
65 of them to choose.

I do not usually like changing the assoc. since it worked a couple weeks ago. I would think if QT was not working in VS18 then other effects would not be working? The only motion problems seem to be the .gifs?
Someone more knowledgeable than I would that be correct, that if QT was not working with VS18 that the other parts of the program would be affected? thanks Bruce

Here is my short contribution to this discussion. This clip was made today with VS2018 and works correctly. The flag is a standard GIF animation from the WEB.
