Sayonara Corel 2019, Hello 2018

Post by pepegota »

I got a refund for my purchase of that disaster but, little help from the forum. I am back to 2018. When and if I hear that they got their act together, I will re-purchase. I have been with them since early Ulead days and it pains me to leave them but, a useless program is not worth retention. I will try out their trial version but, I know they have been faulty in the past.

But you got a refund for VS2018 because it wasn't to your satisfaction, so how come you still have VS2018 installed and considering all the issues you have had with VS, why have you not just moved on.
I did issue a warning to check out VS2019 carefully before purchasing but you ignored that and jumped straight into the fire, so you really have no one else to blame but yourself.

Maybe you are getting little help from the forum members is because the release of VS2019 took us by surprise as well.

First of all, I like the program and it needs fixing. I have purchased from them for years without issue. So, this was a surprise. If they correct the error, I will gladly re-purchase the software. 2018 works fine for me so, why not go back. I am an old timer so, patience does not work too well for me. Next time, and I hope there is a next time, I will heed your advice of caution.

It's hard to know what to make of all your recent rash of postings about VS2019 as a number of them seem to be user-related problems (e.g. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64965 and viewtopic.php?f=1&t=64959). Bugs exist in all software and moreso if it's a major release like VS2019. Whether the current bugs will affect most users of only a small subset of users remains to be seen.
pepegota wrote:I got ... little help from the forum.
This is hardly surprising in that VS2019 has only been available to certain users for 4 days! Not everyone feels your need to update their software on Day One - some users can wait until the dust settles. In any event, you could have engaged with Corel's product support.
pepegota wrote:I am an old timer so, patience does not work too well for me.
That's not an excuse for some of your ill-tempered posts about VS2019 and people.

I have notified Corel and sent them data they requested. I am not using 2019 as I do not own it.
However, I am trying to get it fixed and use it only for testing. I found another bug.
When you insert a clip, between clips, in 2019 a transition is added-not so in 2018.
I would show you the pictures but, I don't think you care.
I want the program fixed-that's all and I will purchase it when and ever it is fixed.

Not caring, well that may be the impression but I assure a long way from the truth
Corel Video Studio 2019 has not yet been released to the general public, yes they have offered existing users the program at a discount.
Until the official release some users are bound by the NDA and find it difficult to discuss the program.
This would normally last a few days whilst the program is released, I believe it was the 14th Feb for the past two years.
Problems with gaping and adding transitions etc have been identified and passed to the development team, I am sure will be corrected by the official release date.

So yes we do care and like you want the program running as it should.

If you don't own VS 2019 how can you be testing it?

BTW, in VS 2019 I do not see any transitions being added between clips when clips are added unless you are deliberately "overlapping" clips when adding on the timeline. VS 2018 behaves exactly the same.

No, honestly, why are you so upset? You do not like the version - Okay. You got it off your system - Okay. Now you talk only bad of VS2019 and have there just a short snap. So what's that? Just continue with the previous version, but do not throw stink bombs here. Yep something else, there is no bug-free NLE. Take it easy and keep having fun as a filmmaker. :) So I like VS 2019 alone because of the new color grading. And yes, I know what I'm talking about.

@Pepegota sleep over it for a few weeks, wait for the first patch and check it again.

If you read my last post carefully, you would have seen that I am trying to help Corel.I sent them data that they requested. I want them to succeed. They made a mistake in their premature release and they are correcting it. When it is fixed, I will re-purchase gladly. Where are the bombs ?

Unlike canuck, I can confirm that I too get a transition added. In my Preferences I have NOT ticked the box to automatically insert a transition between clips; and I was also careful not to overlap the clips I inserted in the timeline. When I inserted a new clip between existing clips, a transition was inserted in effect the same length as the inserted clip. You can see nothing of the new clip though when you play the project, the new clip is visible, plus the transition and then the end of the next clip.

Moreover, I don't know if the transition was randomly selected, though I suspect it was. I am not sure what the name of the transition in this case is -- though it is like a paintbrush painting a big Z over the screen transitioning the new clip into the final clip. But when I remove the transition, the newly inserted clip then shows in full, with no overlap between it and the preceding and following clips.

EDIT: I ran the experiment again, and the same thing happened -- though the transition was different. Thus the transition is pretty clearly randomly selected.

I am also an old timer VS user ( over 14 years when I correctly remember). In the past I almost regularly skipped 2-3 releases before an upgrade. ( last time I upgraded my well working VS X7 to VS2018). The new versions always introduce new challenges and it can take several weeks to work out the new work methods with the new features. This is normal since the NLE was introduced.
