PSP X7, X9, 2018 crashing with certain Font (ARIALUNI.TTF)

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 on a new custom built PC 16 GB RAM, 64k CPU. I have upgraded through X5, X6, X7, X9, 2018. I had X7, X9, 2018 installed on my new PC (HD upgraded and not re-installed) I noticed that both the regular and X64 (its a pentium i7, 8th gen) would crash a lot when using the text tool.

At first it was just X7, then soon all three began doing it.

Upon paying closer attention, i did notice that a peculiar thing was happening- when the mouse would hover over arial unicode font, that is when it would pause and an error came up that it was not working and close down. There are other fonts that do not display examples to the right and some, but not all will also similarly crash PSP (all versions).
Note: ARIALUNI.TTF is installed in Win 10, so it appears that its removal is the way to go unless there is some other work-around.

Does anyone have any idea how/why?

Is there a fix, or can I remove the fonts in Windows?

I even went so far as to remove X7, but have not "reinstalled" it as yet.

Note, Arial Unicode works in Word.

Welcome to the forum. Hopefully someone will come along soon with some substantive suggestion to fix your problem. I can't help, unfortunately, since Arial Unicode works fine in both 32 and 64 bit versions in VS 2019 and 2018, as well as X10. My computer details are under my avatar, but essentially it runs Win 10 on an Intel Core i7 7th generation CPU with Intel Iris Plus 650 GPU.

I did not have the font with Windows 10 so it must be an import. I located the font at

https://www.wfonts.com/font/arial-unicode-ms
a lot of herrings on that page with download links to lots of rubbish but scroll down to below the green samples and the links are there.

I downloaded , checked it with AVG and then installed it.
No problems with using that font. It seems to be very similar to Arial.

Perhaps the OP version has become corrupt in some minor way. Remove that font, do a virus / adware check and then download and reinstall the font if you really need it.

Just to note that I have not installed any fonts since moving on to Windows 10 a couple of years ago. So I thought my Arial Unicode came as part of Win 10 -- though I guess it might have come with some other program I have installed which brings in fonts of its own such as my CorelDRAW...

While I stand to be corrected, I believe that the Arialuni.TT is a slightly different font than the Arial Unicode that I think does come installed with Windows.

Thanks Joe. On checking my fonts, I don't have the Arialuni.TTF font installed -- just Arial Unicode MS (with the MS pretty clearly indicating it did indeed come with Windows!)

Well, I tried removing the font, and the system still crashes (when scrolling the mouse over the font (yes, it was still listed), so then I installed the font suggested arialunicodems.ttf, and it still responds similarly. I guess I will look at what additional fonts are causing this same problem. I'm wondering whether PSP lists stock fonts instead of reading what's available....and don't really have any other ideas for same.

Note, my W10 was upgraded from XP, when the hard drive was taken out of the older machine, not that I think that should have anything to do with my problems, however, stranger things have happened....

Anyone have any additional ideas to try?

I found a tidbit that did the trick: I went to the control panel, selected settings and then went to settings and reversed the check marks: unchecked the first box, which hides fonts by language and then checked the second, which allowed fonts to be installed from a link. That did the trick! No more crashing!!!

I searched for *.ttf and found these fonts all over the place (not sure how that happened!
