Insert extra image creates disorder with the music

Post by varadero99 »

Hi
Has made a video with pictures, movies and music.
When I want to add a picture, all pictures and movies move to make the new picture fit, but music does not come along and ends up wrong. A lot of work every time to get music and sound right again.
Is there any way to lock the music together with the pictures when inserting an extra picture, movie?

Put the music in last when you know the setup. Why make problems .

If you try to make a "music-video" than you have to start with the music. Put the music file to the last soundtrack, afterwards you can put the picture/video files on the upper track. You can adjust the cuts to the rythm (beats). If you are ready and you want to place additional pictures/videos, they all shall be placed on any of the overlay tracks and there you can adjust the size, the location and length without changing the sound track or the synchronisation with the upper video track.

You need to select ripple editing for the music and sound/voiceover tracks too, to get them to move in concert with the timeline.

I usually find that when editing, normally ripple edit everything but the music, since generally music spans more than one clip of any sort. If you have music ripple edited, removing or simply moving a Tl clip will generate a message about changing the clip sequence, and if you OK, any music clips that are 'in focus' at the same time as the clip to be moved will simply be deleted.

So, do your editing with ripple on for every track but music. If you have to move music - eg, to avoid drowning out sound from a voiceover or the video clips in TL or OL tracks, then turn ripple on for music.

But don't you have a basic physics problem anyrate , if you have put all the clips in the timeline synchronised to the music and then you add one in the middle HOW do you keep the ones before the insertion synched as well as the ones after

Surely when synching to the beat you need to sort out ALL the images you want to use and in what order before you cut to the beat , then lay down the music and add all clips sequentially because otherwise , as you have found adding a clip later will either mess up the before or the after , adding a clip changes the length of the visual bit so unless you lengthen the music how can everything stay locked together

if you use ripple editing then I think you will find Videostudio will throw a wobbly because it is physically impossible to keep clips before and after insertion locked to the one piece of music

That is why I told you, that additionally pictures or videos you have to place to one of the overlay tracks. This will not effect the synchronizm with the first video track and the music. The overlay track can cover the first track completely, ie, the original video will dissapear for the time of the overlay track but remains synchronized.
With this method just the first track and the music track should be linked (ripple) the remainig tracks not, ie there you can move/shift your clips how do you like.
What David recommended it is the straightfirward method, where you place every clip already to the final position from the music point of view.
What do you want to do are the additional, inserts when the basic is done. ( like a live recording from the concert the main video track and the music shall remain coupled all the time, but all additional pictures are inserted to the overlay tracks.). When the overlay clips are inserted you can switch on the ripple also for these tracks.
You can use also some tricks. Place the new clip to the overlay track, adjust its position and length. When you are happy, dissable ripple editing, cut the first track at the beginning and end of the overlay clip and simple move the overlay clip to the upper track, and remove the cut off scene. ( replacement of the original part with the new one. The remainig clips will remain in sync.)
Look at this video, there are several scenes additionaly inserted to the live scene.
