new prob with orientation. clips oriented fine on camera and in media player and vlc. they look fine in the import video preview box. when I actually import, corel turns a bunch of them sideways! see attached pics.
so if I click orient left/right they orient but are way small in the preview box and unusable. this is something new since I last used visualstudio but I have not change anything. how can I get this program to import all the videos correctly?
cant see the attachment so not sure if it loaded or not

With which camera captured you the video. Recently I run also in similar pictures from phones and from still picture cameras in video mode.
On some cameras you cannot even rotate the picture, as the immaginary frame is full HD but the picture in portret mode is automatically placed into the middle the full HD empty frame. This means when you turn it, it will not fit the full screen. An interesting approach of the manufacturer. On the camera itself you do not see the effect.
You can check this when you place the clip on the overlay track. You will see the picture and the immaginary frame around it.

Have you set the project properties to match your video - have you selected - "show message when inserting first video clip into timeline" in 'preferences. (press F6)
What happens if you RIGHT click on the small image in the preview window and choose "fit to screen" from the pop up options

Re: imported video clips not oriented properly a new problem
update - accidently found a workaround. If the drag the improperly oriented clip onto the timeline it appears there upside down! then I can rotate it to the correct orientation. hoping it has the same visual quality as the ones that start out correctly. but did not solve the problem of them importing wrong way in the first place. well better an accidental fix than none lol
