Should the various renditions of Corel's video studio be able to remain on a pc , while not in use, and not
interfere with newer software?

Quite a few of us here have several versions of VS on the one computer, and each continues to work just fine. Some people, like me for instance, do so in order to be able to help people with questions about earlier versions. Others do so to make sure they have an alternative editor in case the more recent versions starts playing up or refuses to do something you have done in the earlier version.

Mind you, you can only open one version of VS at any one time. In other words, you cannot have two different versions of VS open at the same time.

I've X5, X6, X7, X8, X9, X10 and VS 2018 concurrently installed on my PC and they all run fine, one at a time. Personally, I would not uninstall an older version of VS as sometimes older VSP files cannot be opened in a newer version of VS.

Heh! 7 versions. I thought I was being tetchy about this with 4 installed. In my case (somewhat similar to Ken) I keep them available to be able to run projects any of my video class students who happens to have an earlier version has problems with.

Eventually, however, the early ones do have to make way to free space for newer versions. If you want to keep really old projects, you can always render the vsp, and then import/edit in a later version.

X5, X6, X7, X8, X9, X10 and VS 2018 concurrently installed only takes about 16GB which is not a lot given the large capacity and low price of modern drives, e.g. a 2TB Internal Hard Drive is only US$60.

If you want to keep really old projects, you can always render the vsp, and then import/edit in a later version.

One gives up a lot doing this including the possibility of re-rendering at higher resolution.

All true, but you are forgetting the ultimate bonus stuff - Boris etc - that's installed in their own folders on the C drive by default. But a 2Tb SSD costs about $600 where I live. So I make do with a combo of HDD and - if the 250gb SSD($75) on order ever gets delivered after christmas - an SSD.
