VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
Hello, Ever since we got the new editor I am having a split screen problem, VideoStudio 2018: I have tried using their templates and also made one myself from scratch, and the same thing happens: the images placed in the holders do not stay in the split area, they overlap all others. So frustrating! I have been updating everything and still does it. The corel support accessed my computer remotely and even when they saw that they couldn't do it either, (the images go pass the splits) they keep saying that "it doesn't happen in to them" over there.
I reinstalled the program, deleted the old version I used to have. updated a card that didn't need updating... Nothing works, the Split-screen doesn't split, only overlaps all over the place..
Any help? recommendations? Thanks!

Hi
and welcome to the forums
Where do you see this problem, is it within the Split Screen Editor or on the timelines
Can you create a Split Screen showing the problem using the Media Library Samples, save the project
Then attach your project VSP to your post
You will have to rename the project from SplitScreen.vsp to Split ScreenVSP.txt
We can then rename, open the project and relink to the clips.

If you are using the split screen templates then when dragging a clip from your library down into the timeline over the placeholder you MUST hold down the ctrl key while still holding the select key so that the new clip replaces the placeholder and inherits all it's attributes
A quick 3 step guide to using split screen templates

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
Yes, I have done that repeatedly, with my images and clips, with the sample images and clips. By making my own template. Nothing works.
I drag the split screen I want, then I fill the spaces with images.I stretch each to the space I want them in, but by the time I add the second, it starts overlapping. What I get is all images overlapping each other.
How can I upload a screen capture here? I have been asking on the chat support, I even had a guy remote using my computer, and he couldn't make it work either.
Thanks

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
Hi
Thanks for that vsp
As BJC reply the images attached show as using Jpegs, do not use video
The place holders are a set length and can only be replaced with the same clip duration, images can be any length.
Drag Images from the library over the placeholders whilst holding the CTRL key. Then drop
A tool tip whilst pressing CTRL “ replace Clip”
The attached VSP has images added to the right of your clips.
The templates you are using are Instant Projects, yes they were created using the Split Screen Editor but are Instant Projects.
You may be best in using the Split Screen Editor (right hand icon on tool bar) use that to create your own Split Screen templates.
After creating your layout you can add clips, video or Images, although images are easiest to use.
When you close the Split Screen Editor choose OK
If you wish to provide a screen recording then it will be to large to attach to your post, you would have to upload to DropBox, One Drive etc.

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
Actually Trevor your vsp does not work .. it is being prevented from showing by a full screen unlinked clip in the lowest overlay track ... deleting that clip which is showing on my system as a black and white clip makes it work. The black and white clip would normally mean that it is unlinked but I do not get a relink message .. it appears to be the white lines separating the splits ... I am guessing this is because you have not used one of the supplied templates in Instant Projects but have used one from somewhere else. See screenshot below
Could you explain please Trevor how you add clips to the templates in the template editor .. I have noticed that you repeatedly tell people to use the editor but I cannot add clips there all I get is a project template which is identical to the ones you refer to as instant projects but works exactly the same when I put them in the timeline
Trying to edit ...... your first and basic problem is that you are not holding down the ctrl key as you drop the clip ... this is important as you must replace the existing black placeholder so that it inherits all the attributes from it .. do not just drag and drop the clip. look back at the middle image of the three I show in my post above
The lengths of the placeholders are not set in stone .. you can make them longer or shorter as required BUT you must keep them all the same length .. so you can use videos in a split screen template if you want to just make sure all the videos are the same length and that you set the placeholders length BEFORE you add the videos - again holding the ctrl key. to change the length of the split screen template placeholders click on them individually and then move your cursor over the yellow vertical bar on the right end of the clip and it will change to a double headed arrow - left click and slide your mouse sideways noting the numbers in the little digital clock which appears this will make sure you set them the same and match your videos length

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
I have done all that is mentioned, I did it today with the Ctrl key, and still nothing. When I sent the past sample I didn't care about fixing the ends, which I have done in the past do do it better. I have followed the tutorial in the site, and for whatever reason, it is not splitting. Here is another sample made minutes ago.
I have to mention, I have created a split template from scratch and I get the same results. The chat support had me update all kinds of stuff, and still is not working. I have followed exactly and carefully all recommendations, and they still overlap. And funny thing, I can do the split screen in another editor I have. I just wanted to see if it was my equipment, but it is doable in other editors and not in videostudio. Is it a bug??
Totally puzzled

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
BJC
The template I used is an instant Projects template from the Split Screen category IP-01
The last PlaceHolder that is showing Black and White is a problem with sharing the vsp when the FX filter Split Graph is used, this placeholder simply draws the white lines
instead of using my VSP drag the IP-01 to the timeline and replace 6 clips with images leaving the Overlay 7 as is.
I cannot really explain why you have the problem with overlay 7.
Ok open the Split Screen Editor, righthand Icon on tool bar
Draw a few lines
Drag images from the library over the Screen or over the thumbnails 1,2 3, etc.
Now hit OK will return to the timelines with the clips in place and a template in the media library
Note this is a Split Screen Template not an Instant Projects template
Double click the template in the library to open the Editor.
Just viewed the latest VSP sample
The last /lowest clip shows the white lines and does not need replacing, as it has been replaced I cannot do much with that?
Overlay tracks 1,2 and 3 need clips replacing by Drag hold CTRL and drop.
I have attached the VSP
No it is not a bug except for sharing VSP using the FX filter on lowest clip.
If you still have not grasped this I will do a screen capture video.
I have uploaded two screen captures to my one drive

One is working with Instant Projects, the other with Split Screen Templates, there is a difference, but could confuse us

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
Trying to edit .... I have downloaded and opened your latest .vsp - two things immediately struck me as being wrong .. the fact that there are transitions on two of the tracks and the fact that one does not fit the whole track shows that you did NOT hold the Ctrl key and select key down until the clip showed it was going to replace the entire placeholder - release select first - again look at what I posted above and have reproduced here - look the new clip shows as white over the whole length of the clip and the words "replace clip" appear and secondly you have put a clip in the lowermost track - start from the top overlay track - leave the bottom one empty that's holding the split lines and there is no need for anything in the top 'video' track

Re: VideoStudio 2018 split screen not working
The transitions show up automatically, uninvited.
I have to remove them, but it doesn't seem to make a difference into the images or videos to actually split. In the tutorial I saw in YT you have to add the effects. For me, they appear by themselves. With my ow clips, and with the editor's samples too. That's why I think there might be a bug somewhere.
Like I said before, this same happens when I created a split screen design by myself. I will send the next shortly, thanks for the help

is your CTRL keyboard key working correctly.
The only way the transitions are used is when we are combining clips, if we are replacing clips then there is no transitions
Did you view the video Screen Captures i provided.

Seems like the split works on the one I created, but not in those provided. Yes my keyword works fine everywhere and it is relatively new. Here are 2 images

..Do you mean effects? I didn't add those, or any transitions. I only dragged random images from the provided templates. I did not touch the very last track (split lines png), just the 3 on top, where as far as I understand, that's where the images go?BJC wrote:Trying to edit ....
