I'm running Video Studio 2018 Ultimate on Dell Inspiron laptop with a 1920x1080 screen at 125%.
This is my first DVD project with this program, although I have made many such projects with previous versions, ie I'm not new to the process!
I have created a video file in a separate VSP file. In a new project file I inserted that video file and proceed to identfy the 12 chapters. Next it creates a "main menu" page showing the first image from the video file with a highlighted right arrow. Now from the drop-down I selected the menu for the video file chapters. Using a Thumbnail template it shows the first 8 chapters and when I go to the next menu, it shows the last 4. Also I have selected no menu audio and my own menu background image.
Up to now all is as I remembered the process from my previous work. If I burn the project, it completes without errors. BUT, when I run it on our DVD player, I get the main menu page with a right facing arrow. When I click OK or Play on the remote, the DVD starts playing from the beginning and does not show the chapter menus!!
I thought it might be a problem with the DVD player or remote, so I went back to the VSP file and in the section where I defined the menus, there is a Preview button. I clicked that and again I do not get the chapter menus.
What have I done wrong?....RDK

Re: DVD chapter page/menu does not show
Hi
I do not think you are doing anything wrong…
When we insert the disc to the player it will show the Main menu
This has one thumbnail or link and a play button
The thumbnail / link will access the Chapter Menu allowing us to choose a chapter
From there the disc will play to the end.
Then do whatever you have set in Navigation Control, back to menu or Play again.
From the main menu if we hit the play button, this is a Play All command and will start playing the disc. Which is what you are seeing.
OK -- Another option
If you have one link on the Main Menu it is of little use other than accessing the Chapter Menu, we can hide the main menu. Edit – Advanced – deselect Add title Menu
When we play the disc it will then first show the Chapter Menu allowing you to choose what to play.
Again once playing will play to the end of disc.

Re: DVD chapter page/menu does not show
Option 2 works. As I really don't understand what is happening with my original setup, I'll stick to this option which works.
Side question, how do I change my forum e-mail address?
Thanks....RDK

at the top of the forum index page just under the large word 'Corel' select "User Control Panel" . When that opens select the "Profile" tab . then down the left select "Edit account settings" . In there change your e-mail address, confirm the new e-mail address, and at the bottom enter your current password . Click "Submit" and you should be good to goRDK45 wrote:Side question, how do I change my forum e-mail address? Thanks....RDK

Re: DVD chapter page/menu does not show
Another possibility is that the player software has been configured to ignore the menu. And a logo clip, if any, etc.
When I first used VLC, I had that sort of situation. So I got onto the help/user forum for the player, outlined the problem and asked about configuration. They supplied ways to do that, and problem (poor default config) was fixed.

Re: DVD chapter page/menu does not show
Hi
I do not think the playback has problems.
When we insert the disc it first shows the Main Menu
This contains one Thumbnail and a Play Button (usually a right facing triangle)
If we select the Thumbnail then the Chapter Menu will show allowing us to select any chapter.
If we select the Play Button it acts as a Play All command and will start playing the movie from chapter one without showing the chapter menu.

Re: DVD chapter page/menu does not show
It's been a while since any changes were made to the burn module - I know, I've made a number of suggestions for it and they've been ignored. Nevertheless, my experience with chapters as the source point for DVD menu isn't all that good: sometimes works, other times not. The idea behind chapters is save effort by being able to menu a 'single clip' which has a number of scene changes in it, without any or further editing. Ideally, the chapter points should be where the main scene changes occur. But generally, I've found it more effective to expend the effort and simply cut that original clip into the various sections and render the result as new clips. It also offers the opportunity to edit (filters, trim etc) the clips before render. Then import those into the burn module and set up the menu as would be normal for any collection of clip material.
