VideoStudio 2018 Ultimate Crashes on Import/Digital Media

Post by Exploder1 »

Just upgraded to 2018 from X9, but now am unable to get out of the starting blocks with a new project. When I click "Capture" and "Import from Digital Media" the program crashes entirely. Never experienced this with good old X9 so am wondering what's up? Anyone else experience this and/or have suggested solutions? Running a nice W10 setup with plenty of RAM and HDD space, all drivers are up to date, etc.

Welcome to the forum.

Can you tell us a little more about what you are trying to capture or import from: is it a camera with an SD card or a mini CD or a mini tape, or something else?

Apart from the mini tape and mini CD camera, though, I probably wouldn't be going to the Capture tab. If you have a camera attached to your computer, I would use Windows to transfer the video to your computer first. Then in the Edit tab of VS, I would simply right click in either the library window or timeline and choose Insert Video. Then you only have to browse to where you stored your imported clips and pick whatever you want to edit.

If your video is on an external USB stick or hard drive, you would only need to use Insert Video from the Edit tab. But you would need to be careful to make sure you leave the external drive connected during the whole editing process, or else assign the drive a fixed letter. Otherwise, if you closed VS and shut down your computer and later reopened it, the computer might assign a different drive letter and VS would be unable to find them. It would bring up a message asking you to relink the clips and you would need to then browse to the new drive letter to do so.

I haven't given any detail about importing from mini tapes or mini CDs since few people seem to use these today. But if in case you do, let us know, and we can comment on that as well.
