Hi,
I´m trying to create video using videostudio ultimate 2018 21.0.0.68. I recorded video on my phone (OnePlus 6) in 4K 60fps (mp4). I have used VideoStudio before but only for FHD video not 4K and it has worked fine for me. The problem for me is when I'm working with the clip part, trying to use multitrim or just going between project and clip in the video window in the top left corner. In project mode I'm having no problem playing the video smooth but as soon as I try to use clip it starts lagging a lot.
My hardware is:
Operating System
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
CPU
Intel Xeon E5 v3 @ 2.50GHz
Haswell-E/EP 22nm Technology
RAM
12.0GB FPG @ 1002MHz
Graphics
4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (ZOTAC International) 28 °C
Storage
256GB SSD
Audio
NVIDIA High Definition Audio
My question: Is it normal for videostudio to be lagging in the clip mode for 4K? Is it something that I can do?
I've already turned on smart proxy using 720x480 and the acceleration for the GPU.
Best regard.

Hello Gooldan and a warm welcome to the forums.
My first reaction is that you are running an old version of VS 2018. I would recommend that you update it first. If you load VS 2018 then select "Help" from the menu, "Check for updates" is one of the options. You should find that 21.4.0.165 is installed.
There were some issues reported on these forums with Smart Proxy in a couple of the earlier versions of VS2018. They appear to be fixed with the latest version.
You have enabled Smart Proxy, which is good. Often I find that initially, the clips can be a little jerky but once Smart Proxy has done its thing for a specific clip, it tends to be a lot happier.

Hi
Smart Proxy should not really affect Clip Playback, generally that improves project playback.
Are you able to play the clip without problems using say Windows Media Player?

Re: 4K lagging
Thanks for the reply.
I've updated now (21.4.0.165) but it is the same. Playback is good in project mode but not in clip mode.
When I play the video using WMP or VLC it is smooth, it is only lagging when I'm trying to play in clip mode in VS.
I'm having the same problem when I use multy-trim and that is a big problem because I use it a lot. I'm also wondering, if there is someone out there that is working with 4K 60fps material that is not having this problem? Is this hardware related for me or is this just poorly optimized software for 4K video editing?
Best regards

Xeon = on QSV
This has many performance implications in VS2018.
There were Smart Proxy issues in earlier builds, so updating may or may not fix it.
Most professionals would not edit that footage without proxies, particularly on "mainstream" hardware.

Re: 4K lagging
Well done for updating to the current version. The reported issues were fixed in relation to smart proxy and smart render. Previously I had experienced them and I don't have them now.
I've been thinking through and looking at your specs and comparing your experiences to my own, where possible.
Whilst I mostly work in 1080 50p, my computer is also significantly lesser spec than your own. I can get playback issues when I've added some FX or there is a lot of movement.
To help overcome as many issues as I could, for the last big project I compiled I moved as much of the content as possible to my 1TB SSD. This did help greatly in my case. My second drive is a 2TB Hard Drive.
Perhaps @Trevor could pick up on what's happening better than I?

Re: 4K lagging
Hi
Not sure about that Robyn
My first thoughts were to be PC related given that it is Clip playback that is causing the problem.
The reason to ask if you can play using Windows media Player
Phone videos in many cases uses a variable frame rate which video editors can find troublesome as the timelines are set at a constant rate.
Can you right click a clip on the library or timeline and choose properties, what are they?
In particular the frame rate, if it looks unusual - that is not standard then its is probably a variable rate. (60P – 59.94fps being standard)
Converting your clips to a more editable format may help.
K-Lite codec pack
Corel did at one time recommend installing that when having issues with HD material, I found this link
https://support.corel.com/hc/en-us/arti ... ideoStudio
Gooldan - If you don’t mind can you provide a sample so we can try on our pc’s
You would have to upload to a sharing site Google Drive, Drop Box etc. provide a link on your post.
Robyn I have in the past always worked with MTS 25fps as those were Bluray compliant which reduced the render times in getting a disc burnt.
Playback via USB direct to tv and I started using 50P only to find that VS seemed to handle those better than the 25 fps interlaced, just did not need to use Smart Proxy as much.
Now I am heading in the 4K MP4 type video for direct playback on TV, not really done enough of that to comment about quality but do look good.
