Hi everyone, I was wondering if there was a way to constrain the brush tool to draw in 90 degree angles like in other programs by holding shift.
I know you can click once, hold shift and click elsewhere to get a straight line point to point, but I need that line to be straight 90 degrees horizontal or vertical.
Constrain Brush to 90 degree angle.

Hi,
-> View
-> Activate Rulers, Guides and Snap to guides
-> Place a guide vertical or horizontal
-> Paint with the Brush on the guide. It will follow the guide in a straight line.

Oh is that the only way? Thanks for the quick response but this seems a little tedious than just holding down an extra key while brushing like in photoshop or gimp.

If you want to make it a bit simpler and are willing to click a tool button that will immediately bring up the ruler with guides and snap to guides checked as well as one guide vertical and one guide horizontal (the latter so that you can move whichever guide you want where you want), then you could script that and bind it to an icon which you can place on any toolbar you want. Once you have an image open in your workspace, clicking the icon would bring up all that stuff with one click. Then paint with the brush on the preferred guide, either by dragging the brush or using the procedure of clicking on one point to start and then - holding the Shift key - clicking the end point where you want the painted line to end.Arkkazeal wrote:Oh is that the only way? The script could also be done as a toggle, so that once you had drawn your lines you would only have to click the icon again to remove the ruler and guide lines.

No, it is not the only way to do it :Arkkazeal wrote:Oh is that the only way?
- Click on the Pen Tool (not the Brush tool)
- Under Mode, click on the icon "Draw lines and Polylines"
- Hold the Shift key down
- Draw a line : you will get 45° or 90°

Re: Constrain Brush to 90 degree angle.
It seems to me that Corel, in the next iteration of PSP, should in Brush, Oil Brush and some other tools, have the motion constrained to horizontal or vertical movement. It has emerged as a de-facto standard, and Corel should follow it (I say that even though the shift in Pen Tool gives more options than that).Jean-Luc wrote:No, it is not the only way to do it :Arkkazeal wrote:Oh is that the only way?

Re: Constrain Brush to 90 degree angle.
Thanks everyone. After some more experimenting I managed to get the pen tool to work a bit how I wanted the brush to. Had to turn off the anti aliasing though to get one pixel lines to look the same.
