Videostudeo 2018 mp4 upload slow mouth/voice

Post by sunshine »

Hello

I received three videos from google drive share. Two were .mov and one was mp4.

the .mov has no problem when uploaded into Corel.

However, the Mp4 plays fine when I download from it google drive to the computer using the windows program that came with the hp computer to play it. It plays nice. But as soon as I upload to Corel the mouth does not match the voice. I have redownloaded twice and same thing. I renedered it just to see and same problem.

Any idea why this would happen?

Thank you.

So, an mp4, HD file from a google drive won't play well in VS.
Note, MP4 is a high definition format, and playing it in VS probably gives you jerky video but audio is fine?

If so, you are looking at what VS without smart proxy enabled does to an HD file clip. What SP does is create a standard definition alias of the HD file (depending on the file may take a bit of time to do, but once done shows a small keyboard-like icon in the timeline file thumbnail). Specifically designed to avoid issues like this.

To enable SP, go to Settings\Preferences\Performance tab and click the smart proxy item box. There are options for the resolution it kicks in at (default at 720x576, but you can change that), and where to store the proxy files. Click Ok to accept the setting detail. Try it out.

Thank you for responding.

I tried that and now while there is voice the mouth is not moving at all. It made it a still picture with audio playing. So that isn't the solution.

The video is MP4
width: 1280
frame: 720
Data Rate: 2424 kbps
total bitrate: 2599kps
fram rate 9.93

audio:
bit rate: 175 kbps
channels 2
audio sample rat 48.00 khz

I've tried rendering a few ways to see if it fixes the slag on the mouth but I have had zero luck.

Any other suggestions to try?

Thank you.

That frame rate is likely the cause.
VS and other editors like a standard 25 (PAL) or 29.9 (NTSC) frame rate to work on. The number in your properties list indicate to me that the video clip was taken on a smart phone, and probably shows something that's happening in a low light environment.

The reason is basic photography: to improve the image in low light, use a flash, increase the aperture of the lens (focus down towards f4) to let more light on to the film/screen, or increase the shutter time to do the same thing. Smart phones don't have a flash, are using a fixed focal length lens (actually, around f1.6) because of the slimline size constraints of the device, and thus the only option left is to increase the shutter time. So, as the exposure time for each frame increases, the frame rate slows down. I've read about numbers around 15-18, but never one as low as 9.93, and hence my remark about something happening in a low light environment.

This can be fixed. Run your clip thru a converter like Handbrake (a free download) to restore the frame rate to normal (25 for PAL), and import the result into VS. Note however that because the original clip frame rate is 9.93, even tho that's an average getting it up to 25 means inserting extra frames into the clip, and the result may look like something in slow motion.
