Pro x7 Video slipped a few frames after rendering

Post by dcdenizen »

What would cause a slippage in frames in the rendering process? The edits in my rendered video (which I synched to the beats in the music track) are off by a few frames -- possibly 5 or 6, enough to notice. Kindly check my project properties below and advise if you detect any reason for this slippage or what I might try to adjust to fix the slippage problem. Thanks very much.

Problem: After rendering in mpeg4, the edits in my 4-minute video are now off by a few frames.
Devices: Dell Inspiron 580. other device info can be found in my profile.
Version: VS Pro X7
Patches: none installed
Source files: mostly jpgs, 2 or 3 mp4 video clips from my hard drive. two were downloaded from internet, one was shot on my android phone and transferred to my computer. the video clips are <8 seconds

Project Properties
MPEG-4 Files

There are a couple of possible reasons I can think of. If the video you used had a different frame rate to the project properties frame rate or the rate you used for output, VS can throw away frames to make up the difference. But it doesn't sound as though that is your problem here... unless your Android phone uses variable frame rates. But normally, VS refuses even to accept video with a non-normal frame rate.

So my next thought is transitions. Did you use any between photos or between photos and clips? A transition uses a bit off the end of one photo or clip and a bit off the start of the next photo or clip, reducing the overall length. So you would need to sync the beat to the tracks *after* you have inserted the transitions or otherwise edited the timeline.

Why are you setting the project properties to HD if your are trying to create a DVD? DVD properties are completely different

Ken, thank you for your comment. I have only two transitions -- fade up from black at beginning, and fade to black at end.
these transitions have been incorporated in the timeline from the start of editing. The short clip from my Android phone is in the middle of the video -- yet the frame shift is noticeable from the beginning. Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Canuck, thanks for your reply. I don't know enough about how to set project properties, and the best settings for rendering. I have much to learn in that area, so any specific recommendations you have would be greatly appreciated, keeping in mind I am not as knowledgeable as most editors on this forum.

Thank you.
