I purchased the VS2018 and it imports without any problems the old vsp files.

It was just the missleading inforamtion from Corel, that the newer versions are not compatible with VS X7. ( this option is turned off on the trial version, and this generated the confusion).

It's possible, if you explained what you were after, that Corel was indicating that if you had VS 2018, you could only save backwards 3 versions i.e. in VS 2018 you can save a project which will open in X10, or X9 or X8. But that's as far as it goes. You cannot save backwards a project started in VS 2018 which will open in X7. An X7 project, however will open in later versions of VS. It has always been this way.

The library contents are saved to files here

The file called VS_AllMediaView.dat seems to be the one to copy
Paste to
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\21.0
To replace that file, make a copy of 2018’s VS_AllMediaView.dat file as a backup.
When you run Video Studio it may take a while to open?
Just a confirmation - it works fine and fast.

Thank you, Trevor :D

I was always talking about the back compatibility, ie the new version shall open the older versions of project files. i discussed that with corel several times, i could not check this because the trial versions did not had this option.
Today after Trevors advises I went into the risk and purchased the full version and of course it is compatible with the older projects. It openes everything correctly and even I could import the libraries. It is a pitty that corel could never confirm this feature, however I asked it since the X8 every time when a new version appeared.

Yes, that was silly of Corel not to confirm it. I started off with Video Studio 7 -- that's plain version 7 without an X in front of it -- about 15 years ago, when it was still owned by Ulead. And even then, it was a well know feature that later versions could always open project from earlier versions. And it has remained that way ever since.

I think that is pretty much the industry standard with all NLEs, the latest version can always open projects from previous versions, not sure if other NLEs have the option to save as backward compatible, that is a very smart feature from Corel

Yes, it is (more or less) the industry standard since years. Corel just made a decision, that the trial/test versions do not support this compatibilty, but this information is missing also in their support team.
I have the whole correspondence with Corel since the X8 version, when I discovered the missing compatibility in the trial version ( it was the reason I did not buy the X8 and later upgrades), and until yesterday the support was not aware about this.
I hope that the next generation of VS trial versions will have this important information (also internally for the support team) or will support the feature from the first run ( in some limited form).

Hi Lata
I was away. This is a short response. Thanks to you and others for so much useful information.

Your message of Wed Jan 02, 2019 9:18 pm. Your remarks

"Cleanup tool
I assume support recommended that to not only reset the program but clean the library, unfortunately the cleanup tool would not do that, it does not remove personal settings."

1 You are spot on.
2 I was repeatedly told to do the above. Several times
3 A person connected to my computer by remote contact. Just did the above.
4 I have by now gone through 8-9 re-installs.
5 I found Libraries can be imported from VSP7 to VS 2018. Corel were wrong to say that library cannot be imported.

6 One problem remains. Library created in VS2018 can be imported to VS7 in less than a minute. When imported back to VS2018 it takes unusually long time.

This has not been resolved.

When the VS2018takes long time. Task manager says that Video Studio "NOT RESPONDING"

Corel called it a crash. At that time VS2018 is simply inaccessible. Not crashed.

Will join the discussion after I catch up.

Corel User to User site is just great.
