'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
This morning (23rd November, 2018) I purchased the 'Paint Shop Pro 2019 Ultimate' program online from the Corel website and followed the download instructions. I then opened the program to the 'Welcome' page but when I tried to navigate to the 'Manage' page the program froze and I had to shut it down using the Task manager. I've tried numerous times to open the program without success. (The Task manager indicates that the program is using 'very high' power consumption.)
Prior to purchasing the Full Version program today, I had downloaded the 'Trial Version' and I had no problems with this. (Before purchasing the full version I uninstalled the trial version.)
Following the download of the program I noticed that two shortcuts had been created on the desktop. One is for Paintshop Pro 2019 (64bit) and the second is just Paintshop Pro 2019.
On one of my attempts to use the program I was able to open the Welcome page and click on ‘Edit'. This worked okay before freezing again. Before it froze I went to ‘Preferences’ and made the 'Manage' page the default opening page. Big mistake! Now the program simply freezes every time I try to use it and I can only close it with Task Manager. TM also says that there is very high power usage for the program.
Any thoughts are most welcome.

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
Welcome to the forum.
First off, the two desktop icons is normal -- one is for the 64 bit version, and the other for the 32 bit versions. The two versions are installed by default, and can be useful, particularly if you have old filters which typically only come in 32 bit versions and so will only work on 32 bit PSP.
As for your main problem, though, apart from reinstallation, the first possible option would be to reset it. With the program closed, when you click on the desktop icon to open it, hold the Shift key down as you do it. You should get a message asking if you want to reset it. Say yes, and see if that helps.

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
Hi Ken and thank you for your welcome to the forum.
Thank you too for the info regarding the two desktop icons. Peace of mind as far as that's concerned. I did as you suggested and held the Shift key as I clicked on the PSP icon and I was indeed given the option of a reset which I did. Initially it seemed to have worked as I could open the program and move from Welcome to manage to Edit. All this time I checked the Task manager and saw that it was recording 'low usage' for power.
I then began to browse through folders on my 'C' drive to look at photos and adjusted a couple of images in a particular folder. I also made changes to images in a sub-folder without any problems. However, when I then clicked on another folder in the C drive, the program froze once again. Nothing in the program would respond to mouse clicks. While it was frozen the Task manager registered 'very high' power usage. Once again I could only close the program with Task Manager. My PC has 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD and I've had no problems with PSP 6 or PSP X3.
Sadly, I went from being thrilled to dismayed once again.
Any thoughts?
Regards, Derek.

You might even try customizing your installation: C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2019 (64-bit)-2 and C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 (64-bit) and C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018-2 to avoid the directory ghosts in the original folders.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.

Grasping at straws but I have a faint recollection that some images were causing problems for users. Try the following and see if it makes a difference:
- Create a new folder and copy an image you want to edit into it.
- In Edit, not Manage, navigate to that image and do your editing. You could use either File/Open or the Organizer palette. Use Computer for now rather than Collections.
- Copy additional images into the same folder for editing using Explorer and keep trying other images.
- If PSP continues to work experiment with different folders and see which stops the program. You may need to close Optimizer or navigate to a reliable folder before closing as the program will open with the last folder active.

Do you have some PDF files in this folder ? If PSP try to create thumbnails for those files, it may freeze...Alba_Male wrote: Any thoughts?

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
Thank you all for your replies. Much appreciated!
Ehume, I must admit I was also thinking about uninstalling/reinstalling but thought I might keep that as a 'last resort'.
MarkZ, I was starting to think along the same lines as some folders opened without problems and others froze the program. I followed your advice about using 'Edit' tab > 'Organizer Pallette' and last night I slowly, very slowly, went through a process of elimination and eventually discovered that PDF files seemed to be the culprits. Thank you for the tip about using 'Edit' > 'Organizer Pallette' for browsing through folders instead of the 'Manage' tab.
Jean-Luc, I received you reply when I got up this morning and you are spot on. PDFs! Your one line solution would have saved me a whole lot of time if I'd read it last night! LOL I have many folders with a mixture of image files, PDFs, Word doc files, etc., etc. so I'll have to go through all of them and separate the files into different folders. (Or at least put all the PDFs into one place.)
I've been using PSP 6 and PSP X3 without any similar problems. The Browser in PSP 6 shows all my 'C' drive folders and if I click on any of them the program simply shows all the images of compatible file types as thumbnails. It just ignores PDFs, docs, etc. and doesn't create thumbnails for these files. The same happens if I use 'Organizer' in PSP X3. Maybe this is a glitch that Corel could fix? It was certainly infuriating to be constantly closing the program with Task manager.
Well, I'd better roll up my sleeves and start rearranging my files!
Thanks you all again.

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
Actually isn't this bad programming by Corel. If it can read some pdfs well and good, but if a pdf generates an error shouldn't the programmer be able to catch that and stop it from causing a freeze - just generate an error message as it does for a very new raw file that is not in its list.

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
I am having this problem also. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled and uninstalled and reinstalling for the 3rd time as we speak. I waited so long to be able to upgrade to an Ultimate version and I'm bummed now that it's not working.
As soon as I click the open folder icon to open a picture, the open window comes up and then it just freezes then have to shut it down through Task Manager. I don't even get to a folder where it's possible a pdf file could be so don't think that's my issue.
Thank you for any help

Loopy "As soon as I click the open folder icon to open a picture, the open window comes up"
When that happens have a look at the folder name that is showing in the Open Dialog.
Use Explorer to find that folder and open it and see if there are any pdfs in it.
You could also rename that folder and then your Open will default to the Pictures folder.
If you do manage to get access . Try opening the original folder that was freezing your program in windows explorer and then one by one drag the files from that folder into your workspace and see if one particular file is corrupted and causing problems.

Re: 'PaintShop Pro 2019 Ultimate' Freezes.
there is a clean up took that service center sent me that completely removes everything when I went from 2019 to 2019 ultimate, it worked great but seems they don't want to resend it and It never crossed my mind to save it for future use. didn't figure I would ever need it.
I have had the program for 8 months and have had to remove and reinstall 3 times, I think this is far to much. seems to have a lot of bugs and for me scripts seem to be the big issue. you purchase them, they don't always install, and I have one that is in the right folder and it keeps saying its in another. I don't remember ever having these issues with older versions. I wont buy any more add on's its a waste of money.

Hi, is there any reliable resultion yet for PSP 2019 freezing up. It does it frequently, usually when I've gone off to work on something else and come back to find it has frozen up, although that is unlikely the cause, it just means it has ben open for longer! I've only had it for a week or so.
Thanks
Paul
Thanks
