Apostrophe's

Post by ewg001 »

New to PSP 2019 and having a problem while renaming jpgs.
When I use the batch rename and try to type in eg Cuthbert's I cannot place an apostrophe between the t and the s. I press the usual key on my keypad but nothing happens. Also the ? and / characters seem to be similarly affected.
Any idea why?

many thanks for any pointers

? and / are forbidden characters in filenames on Windows. So it makes sense that you can't use those in the rename field. These are the illegal characters in Windows filenames \/:*?"<>|

As for why apostrophe can't be used, this is because they use the apostrophe as a single quote character and it would break that if they allowed it. I think it would have still been possible but they chose not to add the conditional coding that would have permitted it.
