Open As New Layer Discussion Moved from Wish List

Post by Cassel »

2. Input as Layer

Direct OPEN to an image, applying it as a Layer (in one step/function)
Currently, a user must open an image, Copy the image, then go back to the original image, then Paste it in as a Layer (4-5 steps vs 1 step)
Please look at Open Source application The GIMP to see how it handles Open Image As Layer, as it performs this function
Although it is not native to PSP, there is a script you can get called... Open as a layer.
You can get it here, for free:

Question: Can it be modified to open an image selected from the Manage tab to open that selected image as a layer into the Edit workspace on the last image in that Edit workspace that was in focus? Just curious, because I open all of my images from Manage.

No and yes. Let's start with No. Technically, and very specifically, how you described it cannot work. As far as I'm aware scripting has no active knowledge of or way to access manage mode. Opening an image from Manage mode just appears as a regular FileOpen command. It also wouldn't know what the last active image was. For that the best way is still to use the organizer palette and just drag into the layers palette of the image where you want it to be a layer.

Now, for the yes. It would be possible to use the pause script template to create a script that you need to run before going to manage mode, then once you've opened a few images, reselect the image you were on and run the script again and it'll move all newly opened images onto the originating image as a layer.

EDIT:
Here is what I believe is the closest scripting can do: viewtopic.php?f=104&t=64615

I must be dumb or getting a wrong interpretation. This function is already available through the Organiser palette. I did a PM to the poster (to avoid cluttering up this thread) to explain but they have not edited their post and since there have been other posts with talk about scripts etc. I really wish these wishes would be tested in the open forum area with a new thread rather than cluttering up a wish list which finishe up perhaps 4 pages long and probably then ignored by Corel.

I loaded 3 images and had them in a layer stack. Then I dragged an image from the organiser palette to the top of the Layer palette thumbnails and released. - a one step process as the poster wanted.

It also allows you to place the image anywhere above the background layer.

i also mentioned it, and yes you're correct. Dragging direct into the palette from anywhere, organizer palette, windows explorer, download list in a browser, they all do it. But they require dragging into the palette. It's my understanding that JoeB wants to use Mange Mode specifically. Not just the Organizer, for whatever reason. Go into manage mode, select multiple images, open them all as new layers.
