VS 2018 Service Pack 4

Post by RobertOZ »

It would appear the Corel have released Service Pack 4, this is indicated whilst I reinstall VS 2018, necessary because New Blue Art Effects completely destroyed all my other New Blue packages, but is not showing yet in Patches and Updates

I just looked at Check for Updates within VS 2018 Help. And it indicated something was available. I clicked to download and nothing happened. I started writing this, and just now I got a Windows notification saying that Service Pack 4 was available and did I want to install it. I said OK. And in the background, the download started. Eventually, after a large download, the installation started. I waited over 1 minute 45 seconds while the installation green line remained at the bottom. Then all of a sudden, it went to 100% and announced it had finished.

I now have version 21.4.0.165 -- the previous version having been 21.3.0.141.

Here is the list of fixes supposedly included with SP4

VSX-1426 UI interface custom set failures after installing SP3
VSX-1421 Transition moved, project duration changes after changing project properties
VSX-1433 Timeline duration changes from 10 minutes to over 1 hour
VSX-1399 Auto-alignment feature does not center correctly
VSX-1425 Options panel won't work if switch back to edit from Share
VSX-1427 Poor quality render using Smart Proxy
VSX-1428 Mpeg-4 export problems, reported on forums [Asik et al]
VSX-1430 PAL installation shows share Mpeg4 as NTSC profile
VSX-1432 Crash when adding overlay effect to clip with NB Titler Pro 5
VSX-1444 Can't remove sample video thumbnails
VSX-1446 Set Welcome book page colors, when offline
VSX-1440 Provide user message when selecting share to Facebook

You will need to make your own assessment as to the accuracy of the above, but VSX-1426, VSX-1433 have definitely been fixed

Just loaded SP4 with the same scenario as Ken.

My NB titler problem (VSX 1432) seems to be cured.

On the down side, the transitions (A/B) are now in what appears to be a random order on the screen, with no option to sort A to Z.

This update system, with its delays, is not good. Corel should change it. I clicked update 20 minutes ago and I am still waiting.
How long did you have to wait? Can I reinstall the program thus, obtaining the new update?

After you have downloaded the update - shut down Videostudio - then restart it again - you then get asked if you want to install the upgrade - and then have to shut VS down again -- ten there is quite a long wait with a littl bit installed before it eventually rushes to the end

no need to un-install

After I clicked to download the programme nothing appeared to happen - - nothing apparent anywhere - but restarting VS kicked it into action

I also just restarted and it worked. Just before I was considering a complete reinstall. Still not a good system!

For those who would like to know where this and former updates files are stored :
C:\users\Your user name\AppDate\Local\Corel\Videostudio2018\VS2018_SP4.exe. (574 MB)
The bug from SP 3 with the low resolution rendering when using Smart proxy Manager seems now to be fixed in SP 4 (verified).

Is the A to Z option still at the top of the A/B transition screen?

Hi John
Like Brian I did not have a problem with the order of the A / B transition library
There has never been an active sort order option for the A / B although there is an icon which is greyed out.

This has happened before that the order of clips do get mixed up but usually the names shift, example the 3D Confetti shows on the Accordion clip.
You may have to do a reset by renaming the 21.0 folder to fix this.

As a thought  you could try re-installing the service pack SP4 to see if that cures the listing?

Hello Trevor, tried re-installing SP4 but this made no difference.

However resetting 21.0 did cure the problem (well niggle, really).

I now have six different 21.0 folders (old 1, old 2 etc.) but my programme is behaving.

Thanks once again
