Any problem with deleting Setup files?

Post by tanguero »

I have VS 8 64-bit installed at C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8. I don't plan to touch anything there.

The question is with the folders at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel (I guess the installer, even for the 64-bit version, is a 32-bit program). There are 2 sub-folders there:
(1) C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 (which contains additional files only under a sub-folder /Setup), and
(2) C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files (which contains a whole bunch of sub-folders apparently all related to the installation, including for various plugins).

The (x86) files are taking up over 3 GB which I'd like to recover. Is there any reason at all not to delete them all? Are these files completely useless once the installation is done?

Hi
As far as I know they are related to the installation and can be removed.
The programs download file is called VideoStudioUltimateX8_64bit_1Main.exe
A self extracting exe file saves its contents to :-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X8 Setup Files
These being used to install the program.

The other folder again I assume to be similar and can be removed.
You may be best to rename the folders to see if that has any effect, just to be sure? I doubt it will affect the program.
If you re-install the program then those folders will be created again, takes a little longer to install.

The actual programs installed files being here:- C:\Program Files\Corel for 64 bit programs

Thanks Trevor, that's what I thought too. I confirmed that the files were not even accessed (searching for Last Accessed date) after the date of the original installation. So I went ahead and first renamed, then deleted them and VS comes up just fine without errors. I didn't try to do anything with VS other than just bring it up, since the previous data, along with your similar suspicions, were all consistent with my own! Bought myself several more months of not needing to do another "Disk Cleanup"!
