VS 2018 crashes mp4 files.

I'm assuming you intended to provide more information. I process mainly mp4 videos up to 4K using VS 2018, and have no problems unless dealing with samples sent by users and labelled as problem clips. And even there I have few if any problems with many of these so-called problem clips.

So clearly we need more information about what is happening for you to draw this conclusion...

I had no problems in the past but, now mp4 files crash. Any file crashes when set to AVCHD, only mpg works. On my other computer I have no problems.
I reinstalled VS to no avail. I disabled anti-virus, again to no avail.

I reinstalled VS, restored an old image of the computer, disabled some start up programs but, no result. What info do you want?

I restored image file, from a time that it worked, and it still fails. Restored windows 10, still a problem. It works fine on my laptop but, not on the desktop computer. Checked Hard Disk-no errors. Deleted and reinstalled video card drivers, still a problem. Looks like I am limited to SD. Perhaps, VS 2019 will solve the problem.

Quicktime needed to be fixed but, problem persists.

What fix did you apply to Quicktime -- or did you just install the QT .mov codec and not the QT player. (I have always had QT on my computers so maybe that's why I had no problems with mp4. In fact, if you look back at earlier posts from other people with specific problems with mp4, one of the pieces of advice we gave was to try changing the extension to .mov -- assuming they had installed the QT codec.)

Ken, I don't have QT.
I did got recently mov file, only Bolide and VSDC liked it but I don't like them.
Media info reveled that it's from IphoneX made with HEVC.
So I had to convert it.

QT would not open certain mov files. In Edit/preferences/player preferences, I unchecked "Show content guide at startup" and then they played.

You're not supposed to install the QT player anymore. As you may know, Apple has discontinued development of QT for PCs, restricting itself to its Apple/Mac origins. Instead, when you go to install anything, you get a dropdown menu of things you can choose. You should only choose QT Essentials, and that installs only the .mov codec. That is all VS requires -- not the player.
