PSP2019 - Issue with resizing images with transparency

Post by LumberingOaf »

Hi, I'm having an issue with the new version when it comes to resizing. I use #FF00FF as a transparency mask colour in some programs that I can delete with magic wand in PSP. When I resize the image it's somehow remembering this colour's still there and using that for the antialiasing. I've never had this before - older versions would use the transparent background. I've tried saving the picture and reloading before resizing, even in PSD format, but it still 'remembers'. What's causing this now? I'm not using any feather or antialiasing with the selections, or anything different to how I normally would.

Some picture's to help explain

Magenta background deleted - artifacts from compression but even here it's picking up magenta in places somehow

Resized and there's magenta fringes

I stand to be corrected by others, but you will notice that there is no magenta surrounding the images that are aligned perfectly horizontally or vertically. It only surrounds those partially rotated. Pixels on your computer are square, and aligned horizontally and vertically. When you delete the magenta it deletes whole pixels around the vertical and horizontal images. It cannot delete whole pixels around the other objects. So I suspect that is why there is some trace left. But if you don't have that problem with the same image using previous versions then obviously my supposition is incorrect. :-)

Joe B- Thanks. I'll try to clarify a bit - the source image is a render and antialiasing was disabled for the magenta mask layer for the render, so magic wand should have selected the whole block of magenta do delete - which it appears to have done to start with and I zoomed right in to check, but somehow it's not using the blank transparent pixels in sampling for the resize - it's still getting magenta information from somewhere. I tried it on ye olde PSP9 and it worked fine - translucent greys matching the greys on these cylinders.

It's all very odd!

Jean-Luc - just popped up when I was replying to Joe. I don't think it was that - was on 0 but it got me thinking about layers. This image has 4 layers with different versions of those cylinder bits on top of each other - just now tried each putting each layer in a separate image and resizing and that seems to work! Still odd! It's working somewhat as expected at least. Cheers

Thanks both :)

This is a known issue. I've complained about it a few times and got no where
