Customize Instant Project Template

In VS Ulltimate X10, I am trying to use the Instant Projecdt TEmplate for the beginning of a movie, the one titled 45_sport_92_S.vsp. The graphic below pretty much identifies what I'm trying to do. I won't waste your time to list the text here again to read.

So it seems obvious to me that the part of it that lands on the first row for film is a solid black background, and that the fade to zero only applies to the green top and bottom bars, and not the background.

Anyone know if how I would the whole thing to fade to 0?

So... put a crossfade between the Sport-2 clip and your sunrise clip
and at the same time fade out your sunrise on track 1

If you change the Display Clip Mode to Thumbnail Only the all frames will be visible rather than seeing the green sections ---- F6 Preferences
The clip immediately after the black color clip appears quite small at 2 sec ish, that does not give enough time to view the clip and apply a fade, so may need increasing its length if that is possible.

I do not have that template so cannot check, if you can attach your VSP to the post I /we may be able to re-link to the clips and check this.
Oh you will have to rename the project file to use .txt as its file extension, to attach to the post?

Asik, I really appreciate your reply.

That does of course improve the effect, but not quite what I'm hoping to achieve. I'd like the black bars to fade out also during the playing of the clip. But what is happening is the end of the intro clip is leaving the bars as pictured below, then that does do a crossfade to the main video.

A better description of what I'm trying to achieve is that the intro clip would be on top of the main video with the center looking through to the video, and the bars etc fades out.

So, all that being said, I don't think it's possible. I did a little exploration of the components of the template, and the black bars and graphic display is part of a WMA being used. Although, the graphics can be faded out, so not sure what to think.

Are you able to replace the black color clip with your Sunrise Mp4
or extend the overlay clip further to the right beyond the black clip.

I do not see how you are getting the split screen using the blue effect top and bottom.
As I said if you can attach your project file VSP to your post we can give it a go, of course we would have to use our clips.

VS can do it. it was done in X5 as SD project.
I hope you can see that the placeholders are center cropped or masked
So all you need is to set your sunrise with that crop fx
I can tell you that its on 48% height and a little down with the cross.
The placeholders are also tweaked and not centered ... so you need to address that also

The split screen/blue effect is the template I mentioned that came with X10. I have uploaded the project.

I'm not sure I follow. It sounds like you are saying that if I match the 48% crop in the template, on my video, that the black bars should disappear when I set the template to go to 0 visibility at last key? I don't see how that would do anything.

I'm going to my project and try to study it a bit and see if I can catch up with you

Sigh. I wish I was home so I could do a short live screen capture...but it looks like I won't return until January or February.

Forget the Instant Project Template as it is meant to be too simple, not much flexability.

Instead, use overlay tracks. Here is what I would do:

> Your primary image/video, the one you are showing in the center section
> Add a black color chip to the first overlay track then use the resize handle to move the bottom of the clip to the top 1/3 line
> Add a black color chip to the second overlay track then use the resize handle to move the top of the clip down to the lower 1/3 line
> Use either a predefined fade fx or use the customized montion feature to add your begin fade key and set the ending transparancy - do to both overlay track color chips
> Add your text to the title track.

This process gives you a very high degree of control not available in the IPT.

You can probably ignore this post as i found the IP Template and was able to modify, is attached to my next post

I do not have that template so cannot see the Sports_02_S.wmv
I assume that is the split screen background effect as a wmv.
First go to Preferences and set Thumbnails Only as the Clip Display Mode.

The Overlay clip has had Chroma Key applied to form the panorama video in the middle.
Move that clip out of the way along the timeline.

Play the project from beginning to just beyond the cross fade at 14 seconds
Does that fade ok, if it fades to black then the transition may be placed on one clip and not both
Effectively fade out.
Delete the cross fade, do you see any black at the end of Sports .wmv? hopefully no.
Press Undo twice to return crossfade and the overlay clip

Make sure the top track cross fade is applied to both clips not a single clip.
Add a Cross fade to the end of the overlay clip, to fade out.

Hi

I finally found the Sports template
I have modified the template by adjusting the crossfades
The attached is an Instant Project that should open using X9, x10 and 2018

I have removed the WMV, you should add that file to the folder before opening.

When you replace the placeholders you should first cut your video so the end of the clip 1 is the same as start of Clip 2

I did not have any problems in using this project, the only issue is the audio that is using Smart Sound, that clip can be replaced
Then its a matter of replacing the place holders to make the transition seamless.

Keeping the video in sync when replacing the Placeholders
Instant Projects are best viewed as examples showing what can be achieved
Some tweaking may / will be required.
The problem being that the placeholders are Jpeg at a fixed duration about 15 seconds.
Replacing those with our video will effectively trim the video, that we can undo.

Ok try this
1 / Open the IP Template
2 / Delete placeholder 2, top track, will also remove transition
3 / Delete Cross Fade from Overlay track
4 / Drag and Drop your video from library to replace Placeholder 1, hold Ctrl whilst dropping the clip.
Replacing the placeholder should retain its edits etc.
5 / Your video may be quite long but will only show the first 15 seconds.
6 / extend the video--drag the Yellow trim handle to increase its length, maybe another 15 seconds
7 / Click WMV to select, navigate to last frame, if not already there?
8 / Select the Overlay clip and press the Scissors to cut, or right click for Split Clip
9 / Select the last cut section and drag up to top timeline
10 /Add Crossfade to top and Overlay track to replace transition.
11 / play to check sync
13 / Reset top video to display all frames -- select the top track main video
14 / viewing the white bar below the preview screen, click the End button till the curser moves far right
15 / Press F4 or hit the square bracket Mark Out

Trevor, vpt not good for 19.2, but not big issue. as basically case is closed.
