Converting gradiants

Its been a few years since I have used PSP. I purchased 2019 Ultimate. I have some gradients that I want to use, they are JPG. what does the extension need to be and how do I convert them? I remember there was a way.

As far as I know there is no way built into PSP to convert an image into a gradient. You just have to manually select each color point from the image and use those to create a gradient in the gradient editor. Or find a program/plugin that can convert an image into a gradient.

There used to be this gradient map plugin that would allow you to draw a line over your image and it would create a gradient of all the colors it found. You could then export it as a .grd file which I believe PSP can import. You can also try any number of online image to gradient converters. Though I think most if not all simply convert to CSS or similar. Still they would give you all of the color stops you need.

PSP can import Photoshop gradient files and it can use it's own PSPGradient files. But it has no method for auto-converting images to gradients.

Out of curiosity, do you have an example image you can post here?

You may use a JPG image as a Foreground color. It is not gradient but sometime, it may help...

The OP stated that they had some jpg images that were gradients and wanted to convert them to PSP gradients. This is not too onerous a task as shown below.

Making a gradient from an Image

This shows one way of converting a jpg image gradient into a PSP Gradient.

1. Load an image that contains a gradient you want to convert. Crop the image as shown to include the best parts of the gradient area.
2. Take the crop and rotate it left or right depending on where you want the colors to appear.

Using the 2019 Materials Properties

1. This almost innocuous + sign is how you start and name a new gradient. In the Classic Materials properties it is an Edit button, the + does not give any message when you mouse over it, not a New Gradient, not an Edit, Nada. This is the Corel improvement!!!!??
2. Type in a name for the new gradient
3. Click OK


Steps for each gradient marker

1. Click the marker to make it active (top turns black) or click a blank area to make a new active marker.
2. Click the second box to the right of User (again unidentified in a mouseover). This opens the color wheel to make it and the cursor active in choosing a color.
3. You can now click a corresponding point in the slice of your image to choose the color there.
4. Click the OK button to close the Color box and allow you to choose a new marker for the next color.

So it requires 4 steps for each marker. Yes this is an improvement on the Classic Materials Properties Dialog --- NOT!!??

This was at least one of the good things that Corel has done allowing users to use the old tried and true Classic Material Properties .

Using the Classic Materials Properties dialog and Gradient Editor.

1. Click New for new gradient = Clicking that + sign in the other version.
2. Type in the new name
3. Click OK to reserve a space for that new gradient.
This is essentially the same as the New Gradient dialog in the Newer Materials Properties > Gradient

Choosing your gradient colors in the Classic Editor

Now this is where the classic editor shines

1. Choose the marker
2. Click in the image
3. Choose the next marker etc
Two steps only to give a marker a color compared with 4 steps with the new improved Materials Properties Gradient Editor.
At the end click OK and confirm that you want this edited gradient to overwrite the new name you typed in.

could you explain from where your gradients are coming in JPG ?
