I moved on to trying to render it to some format, retaining the 360 aspect. To do so, I right clicked the clip and went to "360 Video", where I chose "Insert as 360". A double screen appears and you go through the process there, then OK out. In the preview screen, I got the following, which I thought I was after. You'll notice that among the icons below the screen that 360 is highlighted in blue.

[snip]

[snip] In other words, this appears to confirm our view that something is not working correctly in VS when set for 360 views.

So I went back to the Edit module and removed the Insert as 360 by using the Reset 360 button. I then went back to Share and successfully produced a new MP4 using Same As First Clip. This shows the 360 distortions, but you cannot manipulate the 360 views on screen while the new clip is playing in either Clip or Project mode.
[snip]
Therein lies the problem: Corel used a misleading label for their function. Insert as 360 is NOT to insert a 360 clip as one would expect. Instead it was designed to be used as a "360" view for text. I raised this question in January (2018) during bea testing and was given this reply:

"GEWB, the "Insert as 360" is intended for titles, etc. that are to be inserted in the 360 view."

Regards,
GEWB

FYI: New version of Insta360 editor can be found at: https://www.insta360.com/download/insta360-onex (bottom of the page.)
the insv file should load without issue.
I notified Corel of the problem. I hope they get the lead out.

I've installed the updated Insta360 Editor but still can't get it to import the original .insv clip you provided. When trying to drag and drop it, it shows a stroke through it indicating it can't be dragged and dropped. And when I try File > Import Footage, it sees the .insv clip but when I click Open, nothing occurs. Same when I run the editor as Administrator.

Yes -- that seems to have been the problem. That new link works and I could import the video into the Editor. But have a look at the PM I have sent you since I seem to have produced a video from the Editor which freezes the opening scene on screen and has no audio. But I can use the mouse in VLC to move the view around in the 360 sense...

Ken
Try Pot Player. It gives you complete control over the 360 video by toggling the 360 icon below. The mp4 file I made with Insta Editor played perfectly
in Pot Player and VLC with sound and not freezing.

I'll try Pot Player -- but I wasn't clear enough in my last response. The mp4 I produced froze and had no audio in VLC player, though I could manoeuvre the screen in a 360 way. I'll see what happens in Pot Player.

You don't appear to have opened my PM to you as yet.

The mp4 (5760x2880) I made played in VLC, as a non 360 video, played without issue. With Pot Player you select both modes.
I will repeat the process with a new mp4 and see how that goes. What video card are you using?

As indicated in my Profile, I have an Intel Iris Plus 650, which I am pretty sure is at the top of the Intel list.

As explained in my still unopened PM to you, my problem with the mp4 I output from the Editor more likely lies in the fact that I don't know how to use that Editor. It obviously requires stitching of two clips (that were on the last link you sent), but I can find no instructions on how to use the Editor to achieve that.

I contacted Corel by phone and the information, regarding MP4 conversion, will be sent to them. I hope to see VS 2019 with good 360 video.

So, I cannot use the AVCHD or MP4 options in rendering. Thus, I make a wmv file and then convert it to AVCHD with my converter. The result is good but, I hope VS 2019 will not have the problem on my new computer.

It works!!! I reinstalled for the third time but, the last time without automatic install. Now, no problems with mp4 files. It was bad downloads that sunk me.
