Materials section like Photoimpact

Post by Legacy Author »

I tried searching for the Materials section in Paint Shop Pro but it just keeps showing me swatches and colors. I'm looking for what was in Photoimpact, where I could change shading and literal materials, like glass, metal, etc.

Does Paint Shop Pro not have that or am I just missing something obvious?

Can you post a before and after image of what you are trying to achieve.
If it is metallic text then here are a couple of tutorials

This. It has a bunch of presets and allows you to preview the effect without having to program in every feature you want, but you can still do that if you want.

I understand that I can individually make all of those settings happen but it was sooooo convenient to have it in Photoimpact.

Best you could probably do would be to make a script and then you only have to choose the gradient you want and then run the script.
Other than tat there may be some old plugins that will sdo similar, so perhaps someone with a myriad of plugins may be able to answer that .

It sounds like you are looking for ready made styles.
PSP X9 and upwards have a few Style presets that can be downloaded and applied with 1 click. Or you can make and save your own preset styles.

The closest I'm aware of in a plugin, that will work in PSP, is TextArt plugin by Creativity.
http://www.plugincreativity.net/products/text-art.shtml
It is an old retail plugin which has been re released for free.
I've tested it in PSPX to PSP 2018, 32 bit version, and have had no problems. I've not checked in PSP 2019 but presume it would still work.

TextArt
Create and customise hundreds of special effects to any text in any font for spectacular headlines, banners and logos in an instant. From simple outlines, contours and stripes to polished chrome, gold and steel. It even provides semi-transparent effects such as glass and mist.
Just select the area you want to contain your text, type the title or headline into the dialog and then apply one of over 350 special effects. Use the preset styles or change the colours to suit.
Over 130 new effects in v2 include Scribbles, Patches, Spangles and many more.
Plus the new Custom option lets you use your own images as textures or alpha channels to create unique effects.
This is the fully-functioning commercial version available to download for FREE. This version is NOT FOR REDISTRIBUTION - see licence for details.

Hmm. I put the TextArt plugin in the folders for 32-bit PSP x9 and 2018. It comes up nicely for 32-bit PSP 2018. It doesn't show for 32-bit PSPx9, despite being in the correct folder. Curious, but since it works in 2018 I will not lose any sleep.

Edit: I got it to work by moving it to the Plugins/EN folder. Works great.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.00, XI, x4.3.0.3, x6.2.0.20, x7.4.0.11, x8.3.0.13, x9.2.0.7; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64 b2004.
