New to this forum, but anyhow I am trying to create a .tga file which includes an alpha channel that the magic wand isn't capable of creating.
Essentially the .tga files have a darkened image, with a mix of white and black in your average alpha. However, I want to include the bottom image as part of the alpha channel shown in the white square portion to the right of the 'Save selection to alpha channel' window that is shown below.
I do have a bit of experience with texture editing, but I have not worked with complex alpha channels for years, which means I am a little hazy on it.
Can anyone assist please?

Re: Alpha channel trouble
Use masks, not selections, to create the alpha channel. When creating a mask layer you have several options including "From Image" which will let you use the luminescence values (greyscale) of one image to create the mask. Then you can save the mask to the alpha channel.
So the steps are
1: Open both images
2: Select the texture image
3: Duplicate background layer
4: Layers -> New Mask Layer -> From Image
5: Set Source to be the mask image, source luminance, don't invert the data
6: Select the mask layer
7: Layers -> Load/save Mask -> Save Mask to alpha Channel
8: Delete mask group
Just be careful not to overwrite your texture image with the new tga file. Saving to TGA with an alpha channel is a slightly destructive process in PSP.
