VideoStudio crashing after speeding up video

Post by WaterlemonTheArtist »

I run a small YouTube channel where my primary content is Speedpaints, sped up videos of me making art. I have been using a free online video editing program for a while now but I finally wanted to upgrade, so I got VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 on sale at Staples.
The problem is that every time I speed up a video (keep in mind to speed up videos as fast as they need to be, I have to go to speed 500 or higher) VideoStudio goes for a few seconds, then I get the notification that "VideoStudio has stopped working"
Is there a way to fix this? Is my computer just not beefy enough to handle those speeds? My free program could handle that, and I got it off the Chrome web store! I've tried cleaning out my temp files, reverting VideoStudio to default settings, I even sent my hardware information to Corel, only to not get any response. I'm running a Windows 8.1 Acer laptop with Intel core i5. This is the only thing that has made VideoStudio crash.

Please help!
Thanks-
Waterlemon

Hi
And welcome to the forums.
A quick test using MTS and Mpeg4 video showed no problems when applying 500% speed
Can you give the properties of your video file?
Right click the clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they?
Make sure that the project properties match your video, the timeline will then be set to the same fare rate as your video. You should see a message when first inserting the video to the timeline

When using the "500" number, I am wondering if you are talking about the same thing. Trevor is talking about applying a speed of 500% -- and to me that percent sign means that he is making the speed go from normal (100%) to five times that speed (500%).

Waterlemon, on the other hand, mentions going to 500, without including a percent sign -- and given what he is trying to achieve, I am wondering if he means he is really trying to make the speed go up to 500 times normal speed. If so, I don't think VS can do that as it is limited to a maximum speed of 10 times normal (1000%).

@Ken Berry
Yeah, my bad, I meant 500%, not 500x!

@lata
Here are the properties.

The video properties do look a little unusual
The data rate seems very low at 102 Kb when a high quality DV.Avi would use much higher rates 12000kbps seems to indicate a high compression
The frame size of 1352 x 696 is also non standard
The frame rate of 30 fps is ok indicating a constant rate which is good.
A little unsure regarding the Compression Microsoft DVT-DVD Video Encoder as Video Studio is unable to create a template using that, although Share Same as First clip may render ok.

Where did you get / record that video.
If it’s a screen recording are you able to set the frame size to 16:9. 1280 x 720, ideally 1920 x 1080

Otherwise try a video converter to create a more editable format?
Video Studio may be able to do that, you do not say that you are having any problems rendering the video? I mean without speed settings

Are you able to share a video sample, you would have to upload to a sharing site, Google Drive, dropbox etc.

@lata
I record using Bandicam, I can't set it to record 1920x1080, my screen isn't that big, so I've set it to record 1280x720 (it looks so weird! It's going to take some getting used to...)

What video converter would you suggest I use, and what would I convert it to?

I haven't actually tried rendering anything yet - oops - I'll make up a quick video and see how it goes.
