quickie workaround to audio sync problem

Post by torgo3k »

Hi all. It's been a while since I've checked in on the forums, but I noticed that the old audio sync issues still seem to cause problems.

For myself, I found that I never had a problem with the trial version, but once I installed the full version of DMF4 Disc Creator edition, I was having many of the same problems - even with a fresh reinstall of Windows XP.

That was odd - clearly there are differences with the program rather than a simple "unlock" procedure to remove the time limit on the trial version. I still like the trial version better. It was fast and easy and for me it worked flawlessly.

The full DMF4 Disc Creator also seems to react differently to the same codecs on different systems. If you're having major, major problems with the program, downloading various MPEG2/MPEG4 codecs and experimenting with them may help a lot.

With downloaded codecs in place, I finally got things to where I could use them, but I still had the common problem of the audio getting out of sync with the video when burning discs.

Here's the quick workaround that has done wonders for me - I do a "fast export DVD (or VCD) compliant video" of my MPEG file first. On the first edit screen, there are four icons on the left side near the bottom, just below the tick box for "use first clip as introductory video". The third one down brings up the Export choices. (You can also hit Alt-K to bring it up.)

It's an extra step, and an extra file on the hard drive, but the fast export DVD compliant video doesn't add much time to the total process. And for me at least, it gets rid of the audio sync problem entirely.

One thing I do fairly regularly is convert DVD quality MPEG files to VCDs. To beat the sync problem, first I do the fast export as DVD compliant video, then I load that file into a VCD project (or just change the media type at the bottom of the edit window) and fast export as VCD compliant video.

It's a little more tedious, but since DMF4 allows you to avoid converting compliant MPEG files when burning to disc, it's still much faster than using the other products I've tried.

I hope this helps anyone still having the problem. It's worth a shot...

Hi,
You may or may not need this information as supplied by tech support.
People were having problems with MF4 full after using the trial.
If you do have problems here was one of tech supports answers.

Perform a Clean Remove of the program from your system. You may or may not find
all entries in the list.

1. Launch Windows Explorer and go to
"Tools > Folder Options > View" to check "show hidden files and folders".
2. Please purge/delete all the files in these folders:
"C:\Windows\Temp"
?C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp? (for WinXP and
2000)
"My Documents\Ulead DVD MovieFactory\4.0" (Working Folder)
3. Go to "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems"
4. Delete the folder for MovieFactory 4.0
5. Delete "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems". If a file says it
cannot be deleted, open the Task Manager and end the process named
"ulcdrsvr.exe" then delete the folder again.
6. Go to "C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information"
7. Delete the folder "{448AB2CB-C94A-47DE-80B8-9D7824DEFA57}"
8. Go to Start-->Run
9. type "regedit"
10. Go to
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory"
and
"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Ulead Systems\Ulead DMF"
11. Delete the folder "4.0" for both locations.
12. Go to
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead DVD MovieFactory"
and
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead DMF"
13. Delete the folder "4.0" for both locations.
14.Close "Regedit"

15.Restart Windows

16.Reinstall MovieFactory 4. Make sure there are no trial version of the program
in your system to avoid conflicts.

Thank you

Best regards,

Actually, I went one step beyond that when I installed the full version. I totally wiped out the hard drives and reinstalled XP Professional from scratch before installing DMF4. There was definitely no hangover from the trial version involved.

I did a bit of experimentation, and I believe the full version simply uses a slightly different engine. The features are the same, but codecs that work flawlessly with the trial version are buggy with the full version and vice versa.

*** one other note on the workaround to the audio sync problem. It should be fairly obvious, but I forgot to mention it the first time. After you use the "fast export DVD compliant video", be sure to remove the old version from your project and do the editing and burning from the new copy.

Since your making VCD's can you try something not working on mine.
Load a VCD video. Trim it either directly on the timeline or multi-trim it
and try to export either fast or compliant or a template.
Always generates an error if touched/trimmed.

Going to "Customize" seems to work but on mine it's completely
resampling the video.

So see if you can trim a VCD down to split it or extract a small section
out. It works if I don't trim anything, import, menu burn works.

I also had audio sync problems when first running MF4.
Un-installed Nero InCD. Installed the 4.02 update.
Installed VS9.

If I have the option "Create Index File for better Mpeg seeking performance" checked ON, then somtimes audio problems such as audio not playing after re-importing an exported video. I usually have that option OFF now.

Been recording mpeg2-dvd-compliant using ATI's software and importing them. Also importing videos from ram and -r and -rw in -vr mode.
Multi-trimming them and exporting and no sync problems recently.

The videos do not have any dropped frames in them which I think makes
a difference. Installing VS9 after MF4 fixed some things I think.

Haven't used MF3 in quite awhile now. Still installed on the harddisk.
