VideoStudio will not open

Post by fckrueger »

When opening Video Studio Ultimate 2018 the opening window appears but after a couple minutes it closes and program does not start. Operating system is Windows 10 with all updates installed. I have tried removing and reinstalling program with latest version and no success. Have contacted tech support and after several Emails with no help they are no longer responding.

Hi fckrueger
And welcome to the forums
I assume that you have been able to run the program in the past?
First disconnect the internet then try running the program.

Did Support ask you to uninstall using the Cleanup Tool, you can download from this post
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=59847

Re-install the program, try installing without any patches, i think the installer will show Service Pack 3, deselect that then install
The Service Patch will install later

Post updated
another poster had similar problem seems that was a graphics driver issue

Trevor
Thank you for your help.
I thought I had replied but has not showed up so I will try again.

I had used the program in the past but had not for a couple months.

Tried running without internet, no change.

Corel support only said to remove and reinstall which I did.
I just ran the Cleanup Tool and reinstalled without the Service pack with no luck. I also tried starting without internet with no luck.

I checked the post about the graphics driver and tried reverting to and earlier version with no luck.

Because this does not seem to be a big problem with other users I feel that something is going on with my system. I am not tech savvy so this has got me stumped. I do wish Corel support would have been more helpful but after one suggected fix they have stopped sending more Emails. I did reply that the reinstall did not work and asked for more help in 2 Emails.

Sometimes Video Studio does not close correctly, so can you make sure that Corel Video Studio is not still running in Task Manager, if so, kill the process

Hi fckrueger

Are you able locate the service Pack SP3 here....
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Corel\VideoStudio2018

Run the VS2018_SP3.exe (232Mb) file to re-install the patch

Does that help?

Running out of ideas, doubt the above will work as you have installed without that SP3, it was just a thought?

You are not the only one.
I purchased Video Studio Pro 2018 2 days ago and have still not been able to use it. After many emails to and from technical support and implementing all their suggestions I am still left with a program that will not launch.
The emails were all 2 days ago and I did not receive any at all yesterday.
Looks like I will have to apply for a refund and buy something different.

Interesting Trevor, all I have in that location are 4 MyDVDApp.exe folders, yet I do have version 21.3.0.141 installed, which I assume means SP3 is installed

Hi Robert

Not sure why you do not see the service pack?

Maybe the way I downloaded the SP3, can be done by running the Web Installer or through the program, check for updates.
Usually I wait for the program to respond with an auto update rather then hitting the Check for Updates.
I don’t remember who first mentioned that folder, maybe asik, but certainly when I looked I had the SP3 .exe file.?

By the way after running the web Installer it now give the option to Launch the Program, I have not seen that button before?
For later versions if we tried to install a patch already applied it would give the warning regarding the version, now the patches seem to install, I assume over the top of the existing patch.

The patches are no longer available for download from the web site and have to be installed using the program, except for that folder?

FWIW, Trevor, I also have SP3 -- and SP2 for that matter -- in that folder. I seem to recall installing SP3 at least through the Help > Check for Updates menu within VS, though I wouldn't swear on it, and can't remember at all how I got SP2.

Hi Ken
SP2 was also delivered via the release version, automatically or check for updates, then SP3 came along.
If we uninstall VS then I think the SP files are also removed.
Installing 2018 latest version will only provide SP3 which covers all previous fixes.
The odd thing is that Robert does not see the SP file?

Oh, there was an SP1, a disaster and quickly removed.

I have installed Service Pack 3 and still will not open. I am going to call support tomorrow and ask for more help or ask for refund. I have used earlier versions of VideoStudio and enjoyed the results. Right now I am not happy with Corel's lack of support but hope they will help.
I want to thank you all for the suggestions and if you any more ideas I welcome them.

Was on the phone with support and after several attempts to get VideoStudio to open I was told that the problem is Windows. After some discussions with an IT tech I know the problem is not Windows. Not sure what my next step is. I guess I'll find another video editing software that works.

I purchased Video Studio from the web site on the 25th Oct and the program refused to launch from day one. I'm sorry to say that after 5 days of trying various suggestions from technical support I realised that this program was never going to work. I must admit I was disappointed that the program would not work with a computer that is only a few months old and on which all my other programs including Corel Draw work perfectly.
I have now had a refund and am trying various trial version of other products, all of which work perfectly, to see which I like best.

I have similar problem with StudioVideo Ultimate X10. I bought the software about 1 year ago and it worked quite good. However, recently when I open Video Studio Ultimate X10 the opening window appears but after a couple minutes it closes and program does not start. Operating system is Windows 10 with all updates installed. I have tried removing and reinstalling program with latest version and no success. I have contacted corel tech support and they provided some advice including cleaning up the software using cleanup tools and reinstall the programme, and still it did not work. They finally suggested me to upgrade to the 2018 version and then no longer responding.
