AUDIO PLEASE!!!

Post by mem1102 »

I have been struggling to hear any audio using VideoStudio 7.0. I called tech support and they told because I was using a DVD player with Dolby Digital Sound, 7.0 doesn't support this. So, I tried my VCR and my TV. I got the same result - good picture, but no audio. Can somebody help me please?!?!?

Thank you,
Alex

what are you trying to do, or what have you already done :?:

Please provide as much detail as possible regarding what your source was, what you did to capture/edit video, and what properties did you use for final output...

Also, hardware setup would help (computer, OS, capture cards, etc...)

Thank you for your response.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 700m with Windows XP Home Edition. I am using a "video grabber" device with a USB connection and male RCA plug on the output side. I assumed the RCA plug was for the audio and plugged into my computer's microphone input. On the Input side, I have 3 composite plugs, 1 video and 2 audio as well as an S-Video In. The S-Video works fine when connected w/ my DVD player and the composite video works fine with my DVD, VCR, and TV. However, the audio plugs when connected to my DVD, VCR, or TV give me no sound with any of these devices. Hope this helps. Anything else you need to know? Much appreciated.
I should also mention, my computer came w/ Windows MediaMaker which is a similar video editing device to VideoStudio 7. I use it to edit downloads from the internet. I tried to use this as well, but got the same result - video w/ no audio.

does the "video grabber" device have a make/model number :?:

The audio connection must be coming from your video source OUTPUT, to either an INPUT connection on that "video grabber" device, or your sound card (depends on what the "video grabber" device is capable of).

The DD Audio on the DVD Player shouldn't come into play, as you are capturing video (and hopefully/eventually audio) using an external capture device...

It's actually called Video Grabber. The description is USB 2.0 Video Capture Adapter. The model # is VC-211A. Although I just checked on the website I purchased this from (SewellDirect.com) and reads as model SW-1313.
And Yes, the video grabber has a left and right audio input which I have connected to the output on my DVD as well trying the VCR and finally the TV.

ok, so do you have the mini connector going from the video Grabber to your sound card's input (have you tried both the Mic-In and Line-In)?

You also need to make sure you are recording using the proper input. If you have a little speaker icon in your tray -- double-click it and select Options/Properties, then hit the Recording radio button, click ok, then check which input you have selected -- Mic In, Line In, etc...

Hi George,
I'm working off of a laptop and don't have a Line-In jack, just a Mic-In jack which is what I have been connecting the video grabber to.
I followed your instructions re: use of the proper input and my setting is already checked off for "Microphone" within the recording option. I have put in a service call with Dell also to see if this is a soundcard problem. I'm feeling that the problem is not with the video grabber, but my laptop and/or its setting(s).
