The final insult came last night when I went to 'Smart Package' the video and its support files, and VSP 2018 wouldn't do it since there were VSP files created by 'Painting Creator' in the overlay track.
So I'll ZIP up the files and folders instead.
Bye Bye Corel Video Studio.

You do seem to be having a good time
As far as I know Painting Creator is not the culprit here, we can Smart Package projects containing those clips.
The program cannot create a smart package from a nested project
The error message indicating that the timeline contains one or more project files.
