Garmin MP4 files
Garmin Verb 360 editor creates 1920x1080 mp4 files which play well on VLC, Pot Player, etc. However, in VS 2018 the program terminates. A recoding did no good. Why does VS not recognize the file-it's mp4?

Re: Garmin MP4 files
I will ask the other way, why Garmin Verb 360 editor creates non standard 1920x1080 mp4 files?
What profile is it?

Re: Garmin MP4 files
It certainly is non standard but, multiAVCHD changes that with a recode. They like you to do it the hard way.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
pepegota -- you will probably already have seen another very recent thread which involves a user having difficulty with Garmin Virb footage. See viewtopic.php?p=362419#p362419 This is of course not 360 footage, but since it comes from the same manufacturer of the device that makes your footage, there could be a link.
You'll see from that thread that the OP could not get his original to play in VS without first putting it through a video converter program. lata also had difficulty with it. However, that same original footage inserted without problem in my VS setup, and played smoothly and well. And when rendered by VS using either Same as First Clip or Same As Project Settings, it produced high quality new video with exactly the same properties as the original.
For that reason I am wondering if you can make a small sample of your Virb 360 original footage available on a website like Dropbox to see what my setup does with it.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
Ken,
You can get the samples here: https://app.sugarsync.com/wf/D1814182_040_877085820
The original was created from 5K video and converted to mp4 by Verb software. The second one was transcoded to m2ts.
When the transcoded file is is rendered by "first video clip" it goes to completion with good results. However, if I render
AVCHD/H264 at the same resolution, the program crashes.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
Addendum:
The original mp4 crashes when trying to convert to m2ts. It succeeds when as same clip.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
As happened with the other Virb video I mentioned above, I had no trouble at all with either of your samples. The original video inserted without problems, and I had no trouble rendering it to AVCHD using Custom with Properties matching those of the original, or using Same As. It also converted to transport stream mpeg-2 .m2t with no problems.
I was very slightly confused about the transcoded sample, mainly as to why or how you chose the Properties that it has -- going from the original 1920 x 1080 down to 1280 x 720; frame rate from 29.97 fps to 60 fps; and bitrate way up from 17674 kbps to 104857 kbps. Or were the properties chosen by the Virb software which did the transcoding?
I ask because there are some anomalies when I tried what you were trying to do. First off, when I look at the Properties of the transcoded clip, it shows a maximum bitrate of 104,857 kbps. However, when I choose Same As First Clip, the bitrate is shown as having a maximum of 38398 kbps. However, the rendering went fine and the new video plays well and smoothly. The only anomaly is that it no longer has the .m2t extension but .mpg.
Another anomaly comes up when trying to render the transcoded clip back to AVCHD. If you try to set the Custom bitrate to 104,587 you find that you can only insert 5 number and not the required 6. So I tried first inserting 99999. But when I looked at the Properties in the Custom window, this had been reduced to just under 35000 kbps (which is the limit VS imposes on mpeg-2 transport stream video). I then inserted the sightly higher bitrate of 38398 as shown above. I then rendered the project, and again it went through with no problem, though the final bitrate was slightly reduced to 37497 kbps.
So in each and every case I had no problems with either video in either inserting, playing or rendering them -- although with the transcoded video having different properties from the ones you mentioned. In all cases, the resulting video was good quality, and audio was present in all the renders.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
Ken,
I converted the original Virb.mp4 to make it Blu-Ray compliant. That resolution will play on a TV, which is my goal. Cell phone video is not my purpose.
You were able to convert the Virb.mp4 to Blu-Ray specs? I need to change it for playability. I am looking for an MP4 encoder in the hope that it can make the spec that I need.
I can convert it if I use the "same as first clip option" but, when I try to convert it to 1280x720 the program crashes. Re-encoding does no good.

Re: Garmin MP4 files
I can convert to mpg but, not to Blu-Ry format.
