No Audio

Post by DanG »

I know that similar questions have been asked in the past but I am still having problems with the audio in my project.

I have recorded some old VHS tapes onto DVD using a stand alone DVD recorder. These play fine on stand alone DVD players and on my PC.

I now want to edit the DVDs and so purchased the full version of VS9 as I understood that this would accecpt the Dolby Digital audio on the DVDs. I can import the video no problem but there is no audio (it does show it in the properties of the clip, though). I have checked the codecs and the Dolby Digital one is present. I've also tried burning the project back onto a DVD and there is still no audio. Reinstalling the software does nothing, either.

If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate it.

thanks.

after you import the dvd, can you use something like PowerDVD to play the imported videos? Do they have sound?

Did you use the "Import from DVD" function, or some other method to bring in the videos?

What equipment do you have? (make, model, etc...) :?:

Yes, I can play the imported files using power dvd and windows media player.

The VHS tapes are burnt onto DVD using a Sharp DV-RW260H. I'm then using 3.2 GHz P4 with 512mb RAM and about 50Gb free disk space to run VS9.

what version of Video studio are you using at the moment???

VS 9 supports Digital dolby, not sure about the trial version.

VS 8 you need the AC3 plugin to use digital dolby

Hi Dan

You should have no problem with Digital Dolby using VS 9

Is it just this clip that has no audio?

right clip the clip in the timeline, select properties,

What are they.???

Some of the samples in the video library have sound, does V06 play sound???

Are you getting any errors at all importing like cannot create VIO etc but
importing the videos still appears to work?
You should be able to preview them before importing.

Maybe a problem with the audio being a low bit-rate or something.
Looks like the videos recorded in a mode for 4 hours or greater.

Try the Standard Recording mode or High Quality.
The audio bit-rate should be 256kbs in those modes.
The files import and work on my system with dolby at 256kbs.

Hope this helps,

VS8 does not support Dolby (AC-3) sound. You either need to upgrade to VS9 or buy the Dolby plugin from Ulead.
Economically speaking it is a better investment to just upgrade VS8 to 9.

I've just tried recording the DVD again with the sound at 256Kbps but still no sound.
