PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
About 2% of the way in the install is looking for file PSPPContent.msi. I cannot find it on my machine.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
I was going to wait to see what others found when installing the update, but when I saw your post, I thought I had better give it a go too. But I never even made it to 2% when I got the attached "fatal error" message. In this case it could not find the update setup file which, like you, was said to be in the PSPPro.msi folder. And it was not only that that package was not in the designated directory, but there was not even a folder in the AppData/local/temp folder labelled 240f172... Not a good look, Corel!
Thinking about it some more, I tried rebooting the computer and running the update again. Before rebooting, I emptied the AppData/Local/temp folder. But I got the same error at the same place. The temp folder had been repopulated, but I still could not find either the 240f172 folder or the PSPPro.msi package. I looked in the other folders created in the temp folder, and did find one sub-folder which contained PSPPContent files, but their extension was msp not msi, and when I tried inserting that folder in the error dialogue box -- and indeed the other new folders in the temp folder -- the error message just repeated itself. And in any case, when I cancelled out of the installation, that folder disappeared from the temp folder, and another lost its content while retaining the folder name.
It will be interesting to see if anyone else can get the update to work!! In the meantime, I will draw Corel's attention to this.
(EDIT: Message sent to Corel PSP contacts. But given that it is now the weekend, we may not hear back for a few days...)

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
It can be made to work if you have a copy of the zip file which is part of the initial installation. That file contains the requested msi file and also a number of others, which will be requested in turn.
Unzip it somewhere, like a temp directory. The files requested are in the 'setup' subdirectory, except for one - ICA.msi - which is in the directory above.
Run the patch, and whenever it asks for one of the msi files, enter the path to the unzipped one. It's much less painful if you can copy/paste the bulk of the path (or you can point the browse dialog to it), because it has to be done several times as it requests different files in turn.
It does eventually stagger through to a successful end.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
I have found the PSPPro.msi file but nowhere near what your screenshot showed.
When I installed PSP 2019 I also had a zip file downloaded as well - psp2019_ult.zip
Cannot remember where it was placed but I copied it to my New Programs folder on my C drive.
(Everytime I download a program I make a folder for it in New Programs)
Its location on my system was:
C:\NewProgramFiles\PSP 2019 firstpurchaseUpgrade\PSP2019downloadedinstallation\psp2019_ult\Setup
You can probably search for some of the other files there to locate that folder and see if it is any closer to what Corel is requesting

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
A big thank you to comtrjl and hartpaul for finding that work-around. Great detective work, which moreover works! But how could Corel have left it like this in the first place??
It was also a very slow process -- it took me just over 20 minutes to install what was, after all, only supposed to be an update patch. That included, of course, the 7 requests for a correct folder and -- insult to injury -- the request for Admin approval each time. But once you had the folders identified by comtrjl and hartpaul, that was quick enough, especially since 6 of the 7 were the same folder each time, and the 7th and final one the folder above.
The version I have is now 21.1.0.22.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
Ok I seem to be missing something here.
1. Which are the files that PSP 2019 update stops to try and find can someone list them?
eg Suppose the files are
A.msi,
B.msi
C.msi
etc
and these are located in
C:\Users\*Username*\Desktop\BooBoo\BooBoo1
with that other file ICA.msi in
C:\Users\Paul\Desktop\BooBoo
One level up.
2. Does it go to the same folder to find these (except one which is in a folder above) or does it go to some folder that it expects to find those in:
eg
C:\Users\*Username*\Documents\2019
and
C:\Users\*Username*\Documents
3. Would it be possible to set up a folder with those names and then copy the files over to present it as PSP 2019 Update expects so that it then runs through completely without stopping to have you navigate to a different folder?
Can anyone that is installing the Update please check what happens and detail the requests.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
After you start to run the patch, the little browser window appears and says 'Cannot find blah blah'. The exact file name is in the browser window about 2 or 3 lines down. At this point you have to manually browse to the 'Setup' directory where you unzipped 'psp2019_ult.zip' and click on that filename.
It churns for a bit, then the browser window reappears with another filename. Repeat as above, and so on about half a dozen times.
If you view the 'Setup' directory of the zip file in Explorer, I reckon it asks for about 5 or 6 of the listed msi files, plus ICA.msi.
I expect whoever made the patch probably had the zip file already available on thier system, so it worked. On ours this directory was deleted at some point, hence the problem.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
I've gotten in the habit for the last 5 years of making a copy of the original installation files because the install update process has done things like this often for me. It may be that I only install the 64bit version, and maybe that changes something? It seems like Corel assume the temp install files will remain on my computer, but they don't.
Here's how I make a full backup of ALL the original setup files:
When you originally install the software, it will download all the files. Usually this is somewhere in you C:\users\USERNAME folder. Here's how I grab the files:
1. Start the installer you get from Corel.
2. Wait until you get the the first prompt in the installer. At this point you have all the files somewhere on your computer.
3. Open Windows Explorer and type in %TEMP% in the address bar... Explorer will jump to the folder location where all the installer Temp files are.
4. Sort that folder by Date Modified: You will find one folder with the current Date and Time. This is where your Corel Installer files are
5. Open that folder and search for a folder with "Setup.exe" in it. There's your setup folder!
6. Select all the files and folder, right-click, and save to a ZIP file for safekeeping.
To get the Update 1 to work, I just unzipped this to a new folder, and kept pointing the dialog to my setup folder.

It's all true -- but think about the workarounds one must do to keep PSP current. Think about the assumption -- that setup.exe will still be where the unzipper put it.Lonnie West wrote:I've gotten in the habit for the last 5 years of making a copy of the original installation files because the install update process has done things like this often for me. Thanks at all. I was able to run the update this morning and have a successful completion.
This is not anywhere user friendly. Poor testing at the least.

The installation is looking for the .msi files in C:\users\admin\appdata\local\temp\faa047\PSP2019_ult\setup. I found that in my machine the folder temp exists but the remaining directories were not there. So I suppose if you were to create \faa047\PSP2019_ult\setup directories there and copy in the .msi files from the setup folder in the zip files from the initial installation plus the ICA,msi file you could have an uninterrupted installation. I normally do not work as Admin so for me when I was installing yesterday it was easier to copy the files into a folder that the installer could access and go through Browse for each file it looked for.
I couldn't help myself, wanted to know if what I just posted works, so I uninstalled PSP2019, reinstalled and went through the update installations. what I found is:
When you set up the directories above, copy over all the files into the PSP2019-ult directory you have created.
Create the \Setup directory and copy all the .msi files into it.
After the installation starts the error message appears - I found that the name of the directory \faa047 had changed. Once I changed it to the new one, installation proceeded until other unavailable files were identified - which is why I added the comment above about other files to copy. At this point it should proceed uninterrupted.
Or you can wait for Corel to fix things.
The files that need to be copied are about 400Mb, takes time. Initial installation of PSP2019 took about 11 min. Update1 took about 19 min. - estimate because of the need to copy the additional files.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
As advised above, I raised this issue with Corel. They have now advised that they are working on a solution, and in the meantime they are taking the update off their website.
They have found the update works correctly if you have installed PSP 2019 from a (purchased) disc, and that the error occurs when installation of PSP had been done via the download method they have instituted for a couple of versions now. Given that most people these days would have used the download method, you would have thought they might have tested installation of the patch on download versions of PSP with at least equal weight to testing it on disc versions.

Re: PSP 2019 Update1 Fails
I've had this a few times now with the fail. You do get a bit sick off #$%$ that dosen't work right the first time so I wasn't interested in a "Fourth" time. So tonight I just un-install the program (Keeping personal settings) and re-installed it. The exe doesn't carry the full install files so it needs to download the files before installing. This updates to the current build. Just re enter your code, activation, register, No mess no fuss. Pain but better than a fail every time.
PS. I really hope this update fixes the cropping tool! It's been the worst it ever been! Hate it. Even considered put 2018 back on the PC. Not a fan off it in that either but at least it works to greater degree better than the 2019 version!
