PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
I can't use my color changer tool to change color to a gradient. It will work fine with a solid color but not a gradient. It is a black outline that I want to change to gold gradient. The palette shows gold gradient and white while the 2 smaller box to the right show black and white. When I click on the black part of the image it changes it to black or white, but not gold. Please help

Use the Color REPLACER tool not the color changer.

Color replacer doesn't work like that. Can't change all the black area with a click

If you set your brush size to 3000 pixels you cover a big area.mich2018+ wrote:Color replacer doesn't work like that. Can't change all the black area with a click
You may also create a script if your images are bigger... and one click makes the job ...

Re: PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
Color replacer does have a single button replacement.
There is a button right next to the "Smart Edge" checkbox on the tool options palette that if you hover over it will give a tooltip of "Replace all pixels"

Jean-Luc and LeviFiction - neither of those works. Perhaps it doesn't work with PNG files. I tried it on a merge all layers flatten and it colors the whole image but allows the black outline of the M to show through.

Re: PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
File type has nothing to do with it.
Color replacer is different from color changer. And they are meant for different uses. Which is why, I imagine, that Color changer doesn't use gradients. Color Replacer is meant more for those solid color areas but it doesn't sample the image. Instead it uses the background color in your materials palette to be the color that you want to replace, and the foreground color is the color to replace it with. In this case, a black color should be the background color and the gradient should be the foreground color.
I can do this with flattened layers, on layers with transparency. It works on all of them. It will, however, only replace data on the currently selected layer. So if you have the wrong layer selected it either won't do anything as there will be no matching data or it'll replace areas you don't want it to.

LeviFiction - Color changer will work but only with the colors in the small box. I posted a pic of my palette setting. https://www.facebook.com/17482958720910 ... _=EEHH-R-R
I tried what you suggested in the above post and couldn't get that too work.
Unrelated - the latest update for 2019 didn't work. I have a ticket in for that.

Re: PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
I don't subscribe to the demon site known as Facebook. xD So I can't see your image. Can you just tell me what your settings are?
I didn't say the color changer doesn't work, but that it doesn't work with gradients because of its use case. There is a reason they use the solid color selection and not the gradient selection on the materials palette. Color changer literally changes the color (hue + saturation) while leaving the lightness alone. This maintains the texture, and is meant for things like clothing, objects where the texture of the object is important. Color Replacer on the other hand is meant more for solid colors/graphics where replacing the whole pixel is okay. If you don't mind using the brush the Change to Target brush is like a fun mixture of the two. It will replace the color if you set that mode, and will use gradients. But it's not the automated matching of the color changer or color replacer.
I made a really old tutorial on the color replacer tool but now that I've re-watched it I have a strong desire to burn it with fire and pretend it never existed. Here is a small demonstration, no audio because I don't have a working mic at the moment.
In this demo I select the background color by holding the CTRL key and right-clicking on the image. This lets me sample the area I want changed before hitting the replace color button. I also demonstrate the different effects I get based on the tolerance level and where I sample on the image.

Re: PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
Only setting I see for Color changer is Tolerance and Edge Smoothness. Tol is 200. You know what ticks me off is that I swear I used to be able to do it. I used to be able to add a border, and use the color changers to change the border color to a gradient.. I;m certain of it.
It appears that the color replacer will do the job if I make the size large enough.
Anyway thanks for all your help. Appreciated.

An alternate way to go about it is to select the border with the magic wand tool and then flood fill with a gradient.mich2018+ wrote: I used to be able to add a border, and use the color changers to change the border color to a gradient..

Re: PSP 2019 ULT - Color Changer to Gradient
As far as I know, the color changer tool was originally added back in Paint Shop Pro Photo XI. I have both XI and X2 installed and they don't support using gradients with the color changer tool. The help file entry on this also has not changed since Xi in any version of PSP I have installed. They all indicate that you need to select a "solid color" when using the color changer tool.mich2018+ wrote:... You know what ticks me off is that I swear I used to be able to do it.
