PSP7 vs modern PSP's
I keep PSP7 around from the JASC days. I used to use it to polish up icons I created in Inkscape. Today I use PSP7 to print maps.
Every PSP since PSP9 (JASC again) has shown a blank page for "Print Layout" (check it on your version of PSP). PSP7, OTOH, has the full-sized image the way it will appear on the printed page, under "Print Preview."
I treasure my copy of PSP7.04. The Corel devs have had how many years since they bought PSP?

I answered my own question. PSP-10 was copyright 2005 by Corel.

Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
I still use JASC version 7 today. Runs fine under Windows 10. Of all the versions of PSP that I have owned JASC 7 has been and continues to be the most reliable.

Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
I still preferred Jasc's v.9, but with the latest updates.
I've only gone with the latest Corel versions for some improvements in some tools that I like and use. But I hate the crappy Crop tool in the latest Corel versions - so use other workarounds so that I don't have to use it.

How many updates do you have for PSP9? If there are more than one, where can one get them?JoeB wrote:I still preferred Jasc's v.9, but with the latest updates.I've only gone with the latest Corel versions for some improvements in some tools that I like and use. Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
Does Jasc 9 open .PSPIMAGE files or only .PSP fles? I'm still battling with the new versions constantly crashing. And my JASC 7 won't open all my .PSPIMAGE files.JoeB wrote:I still preferred Jasc's v.9, but with the latest updates.I've only gone with the latest Corel versions for some improvements in some tools that I like and use. Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
It can but only versions saved to be compatible with PSP9. So if it's saved to be compatible with a newer version of PSP then PSP9 won't open it.

Do remember that all the JASC and Corel through at least PSPx4 were 32-bit-only programs.LeviFiction wrote:It can but only versions saved to be compatible with PSP9. So if it's saved to be compatible with a newer version of PSP then PSP9 won't open it.

Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
Yes indeed. Though that has no bearing on file format compatibility. The file format is the same regardless of whether the 64-bit or 32-bit version of PSP saved it. The important thing is the compatibility options used when saving a PSPImage file. An X8-2019 file format will not open in PSP9. You must save it to be compatible with PSP9 or earlier and you will lose any functionality that doesn't exist in PSP9 such as word wrapping on text.

Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
How do you do that? I don't see any option to save in an older format. I do still have access to X2 on an old XP computer. If I could save from X2 to a PSP7 format, that would be super helpful.LeviFiction wrote:You must save it to be compatible with PSP9 or earlier and you will lose any functionality that doesn't exist in PSP9 such as word wrapping on text.

Re: PSP7 vs modern PSP's
If you use Save As the dialog and you select the PSPImage format, an "Options" button will appear at the bottom of the dialog. Click that and there will be a format compatibility drop down where you can select the program level you want to save for.
