Backlighting might help a little, but not enough.
There are no pixels in there to retrieve information, so some manual work is the only way.
You will need to copy and paste bits and pieces, some cloning, using the Burn Brush to adjust/darken the colour etc.

Or.. select the offending blown highlights with a large border, promote the selection to a new layer, then use the Warp Brush, set to Contract, put the brush in the centre of the white part and shrink it
Like so:
Tidy up (erase lightly) around the edge of the promoted selection.
