Re: VS 2018 bugs
Hi Scubbie: I've been doing some tests this afternoon. I can't seem to hear the audio blips/cracks when played within the project on my computer, and can't hear them after rendered to MP4, played on my computer. I am hearing them after burned to DVD and played on stand alone DVD player using the TV.
I am shooting with a Canon video camera, XF400, 1920x1080, 29.970 fps, MP4.
I attached print screen of project properties, I am probably using the incorrect format. I just let it default to "mobile". Can you tell me which one to use?
I attached properties of the clip, what the camera shot.
I attached properties of the DVD burn.
I'm starting to think it's a problem with file compression during the DVD burn.
My process is shooting it with the XF400, editing now in Corel 2018 Ultimate, rendering to MP4, burning the MP4 to DVD.
Thanks for your help.
Candy

Re: VS 2018 bugs
I do not want to protect Corel, but this file compatibilty problem is one of the challenges everywhere. In a studio by my friends they have a very expensive professional editing system, and they are faceing to the same issues. In my prefssional carriere we sold many very expensive analysers, which had just a simple tasks - analyse and detect all incomming streams into the TV stations and generated the necessary documents for the engineering, to instruct the editors (cutters) which file what kind of preparation must absolve before processing. Especially those from DSLR cameras were a challenge, practicaly almost each camera delivered different files. Today already every phone can deliver a video file.....
I use VS since 2003 and had several issues as well, but had also many very stable solutions, last time the VS X7 on W7/64 bit had almost no problems. The program never crashed, no blips in audio, some MP4 files had to be converted, because not only the VS but also W Media Player had a problem to play them. So a VLC became the standard media player and convertor.
The VS 2018 is quite new on my PC, the instability and the way of operation of the new UI screen is very strange to me also. The layout jumps, disturbing the whole editing process.
I try to avoid files from strange cameras, I do not really understand the people why somebody chose an expensive DSLR camera for video production ( even in the professional world)? Those cameras are more expensive, limited operation possibilities, heavier and mostly do not deliver better videos than the real video cameras. Additionaly those manufacturers often have no video background and this is than the result why the videos from the DSLR cameras are not compatible with common video standards. When I correctly remember the videoanalyser detected over 40 different video versions. Why somebody expects that every editor must accept all those video formats?

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Hi Candy
We need to know the exact properties of your video recordings.
You say using 1920 x 1080 x 29.97 fps, I am assuming progressive.
The only issue you may have is using Interlaced Upper Field instead of Progressive aka Frame Based
Can you start a new project, add one of your original recordings to the timeline
Do you get a message to change the project properties, if yes choose details.
Copy and paste the right hand panel to your post
Otherwise right click the clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they?
Create a screen shot to attach to your post.
Please view this web page, can you say you are rendering the project to a DVD Mpeg2 compliant video file before burning the disc.
http://lata.me.uk/corel/all.htm
I would use these for the DVD Disc settings
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Frame-based
(DVD-NTSC), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
If the video is below 60 minutes you could try a Constant data rate 8000kbps
Of course converting from HD to Sd is gonna impact on quality set.. Preferences (F7) set edit tab – resample quality to Best

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Hi Trevor: Here is screen shot of details after I said yes to "change properties".
The top line of Project Properties is cut off but it is the same as Video Properties, MPEG-4 Files.

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Hi Candy
When we burn a DVD we use Mpeg2 DVD compliant video files.
If our original video uses Progressive (Frame Based) then the Mpeg2 should also use Frame based
1 / If you first render the project to a video file (share mpeg2) that file should use Progressive, you will have to create your own template, then use that video to burn the disc
2 / If you allow the burner module to convert the project (Convert Title) then the settings again should use Progressive.
Your image of the burner (convert Mpeg Settings) shows Upper Field.
Converting Progressive to Interlaced (upper field) will impact on quality and my affect audio?
You do not say which process you use but I would recommend that you first convert the project to Mpeg2, as my web details.

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Trevor, thanks for your reply. I bet what you describe in the burning process is probably causing the audio blips. I'll read your info and will do some tests.

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Trevor, I rendered the project to MPEG2 frame based and Dolby Digital Audio and set the same for DVD disc settings and audio blips/cracks are gone. Years long mystery solved for me, and apologies if along the way this was explained to me more than once (lol). Hard to teach old dog, new tricks here. It also got rid of that timely title conversion. Making sense now.
Thanks again so much!

Re: VS 2018 bugs
A very intersting bug on VS2018 ( probably only in case when set to SD (720x576).
Look at the end of the video https://youtu.be/4zG4c9pKz-0.
The last scene is a static picture followed with a simple color background and titles. At the end there is one frame flash with sound. I cannot see the picture on the timeline, just hear the noise. The noise is from the 4th clip from the end and I cannot remove it.

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Weaver, because the video is 18 min, can you give us the minute mark where this problem is so we can get right there without searching.
Thanks,
Candy

The last scene is usually at the end of the video. Go to the total end (18 minutes)!
Today I opened the project again and there was one frame from the last motion clip. I have no idea what happened. Today I could easily delete the frame and is everything OK.

Re: VS 2018 bugs
Weaver - Sorry I wasn't sure but I see the glitch at the end. Weird things can happen. Glad you can probably delete that frame.
