multi-trim in 9

Post by weak_link »

I did a search on multi-trim but had a hard time finding an answer so here goes..

I'm very new to video editing so please be kind and don't flame me.

I've got a large chunk of video, about 612mb, and a cut list. I need to chop this video up into sections based on running time/frame count.

I'd like to be able to feed in roughly 20 start/stop points into multi trim and just have it end up with 20 separate clips.

Is this possible using multi-trim or am I misunderstanding what multi-trim is really used for? When I try and do more than one start/stop point, I only end up with one.

What am I doing wrong, or, is it even possible to do what I'm trying to do/

This is the demo of the software. This is just the beginning of a large inhouse project and we don't want to purchase anything until we are very sure it's going to do what we need it to and without a lot of drama or frustration.

Thanks a ton in advance!

There are two different methods for editing: (1) Multi-Trim (MT), which marks out intervals a video file but does not reduce the file size, and (2) Save Trimmed Video (STV), a menu item, which produces (renders) a new video file of a selected region.

(1) If you are removing small pieces of a video file (e.g., removing commercials from a movie) use Multi-Trim. You can control whether to delete or retain your selections. I think you just are having cockpit control problems here. What is retained is displayed at the bottom of the MT window.

(2) However, if you are removing large sections of bad video (I repeatedly have left the camcorder on in the camera bag) then IMHO, it is better to use STV because it actually reduces the total size of video files in the project.

Welcome to the world of drama and frustration.

That's small going by standard Mpeg2 video.
Did you type that wrong?

If you right-click on the video on the timeline then select "Properties".
What are the properties of the video?
