I am having issues opening MP4 files. I have even convinced my manger to upgrade my videostudio version today to help fix the issue (was on pro x5 now on pro 2018), as i though the older version just couldn't handle mp4 files
I am still getting the same issue every time i try to import the mp4 file. I have looked at "fixes" online like install quicktime and divX and i have followed all of those fixes with no avail.
I just installed the K-lite codec to see if it would help once again no help. The video plays in VLC and now in the K-lite player. Does anyone have any ideas?
I work for a transport company I do some video edited sometimes but i mainly use the software to trim security camera or dash camera footage for our compliance department, and every time i need to do that it never opens in my video studio and i have to try and convert it beforehand (which can be very annoying esp today when i haven't been able to convert one of the files online as it is a large size)
Does anyone have any solution / have a fix for this
Thanks

Re: Unable to open file[.filename...] File format mismatch
Welcome to the forum.
Video Studio has certainly been able to edit and produce a wide variety of mpeg-4 formats for many versions. If it couldn't, this forum would be deluged with an avalanche of complaints.
However, it does have difficulty with mp4 which is filmed using a variable frame rate. If the video does not use a standard frame rate, such as 25 or 50 fps (PAL) or 29.97/59.84 fps (NTSC -- sometimes also shown as 30/60 fps), it can produce a message like the one you get. And in such cases we tend to advise people to convert the video to a new mp4 with identical properties, except for making the frame rate a standard one. We recommend freeware video converters like Handbrake or Format Factory for this. However, by the sounds of it you already have tried this -- though you never mentioned what you converted your video to.
So we need to know more about the exact properties of your mp4 video clips. Since you can't open a file within Video Studio, you will need to use a freeware program like MediaInfo https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download or GSpot https://www.videohelp.com/software/GSpot Please download one of these and point it at one of your mp4 files, and give us the results.
If indeed it turns out to be a variable frame rate, does your camera software allow you to specify a standard rate?

Re: Unable to open file[.filename...] File format mismatch
I have similar issues from some cameras. Interestingly other programs open them and Windows Media player plays as well (vlc always)
I use one of the convertors, mostly the Prodrenalin to reduce the fisheye distortion (anyway needed for those videos. After the conversion the VS accepts the MP4 files

Re: Unable to open file[.filename...] File format mismatch
Thanks for the quick reply. Ya the frame rate seems to be 12 fps, which is probably the issue.
I used to convert it to an avi using an online converter (but most limit at 100mb), i just tried handbrake but got an error "No valid source or titles found" and my anti virus stopped me from downloading Format Factory. Can anyone recommend any other freeware converter?
Thanks

Which link did you use for Format Factory
Try this one.
http://www.pcfreetime.com/
The installer does try to install a web browser, (Web Discover) deselect that option on first page.
